Roles & Responsibilities: The Road Safety Engineer-1 shall report to the respective Area Design Manager. The Road Safety Engineer-1 will be responsible for undertaking and reviewing Road Safety Audits / Reviews, inputs into standards / specifications and to provide advice on design issues in particular design departures.
· The Road Safety Engineer -1 will be responsible for any other tasks that are allocated to him / her by their direct Manager or the Lead.
· Undertaking and review of Road Safety Audits / Reviews from Stage 1 to Stage 4, inputs into standards / specifications.
· Provide technical support and advice to the Road Safety Specialist and act independently as may be required under certain circumstances.
· Work proactively with the Design Consultants to resolve any problems related to Road Safety.
· Coordinate with the Highways Project and Roads Project Departments to develop and implement improvements to the methods concerning Road Safety Audit to obtain the highest engineering value whenever possible.
· Continually seek and capture lessons learned from the process and use this intelligence to improve systems and tools.
· Liaise effectively with the Design / Supervising Consultants / Contractors on all Road Safety matters and provide recommendations of acceptance or otherwise to RSA Stages.
· Act as an internal facilitator within the department to identify concerns, areas for improvement, and then act to streamline processes.
· Liaise with Highways Project and Roads Project Departments on all RSA matters and ensure that lessons learned are incorporated appropriately into new construction contracts.
· Continually seek and capture lessons learned from the process and use this intelligence to improve systems and tools.
Education Qualification :- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or transportation from a recognized university.
- Qualification as a Road Safety Auditor from a relevant recognized international body.
- At least 10 years experience in Road Safety Auditing for highways and large-scale development designs.
- Experience with the planning implementation and auditing of temporary and permanent road works to recognized international standards.
- Detailed knowledge of traffic control devices such as temporary safety barriers, speed control / speed management measures, traffic signage, road furniture, road markings, pedestrian and cycle crossing measures, as well as infrastructure requirements for traffic signals and roundabouts.
- Knowledge of wide-ranging road safety issues relating complex layouts such as road tunnels/underpasses/elevated road sections/grade separated interchanges and large traffic signal junctions.
- Familiar with civil engineering contract procedures and standard international forms of contract.
- Proficient in English, written and spoken.
- Middle East experience is an advantage.
