ABL is looking for expression of interest from freelance Rig Electrical and Controls System Engineers in Australia, Peru, Bolivia, India and Asia Pacific

This role is for candidates who are looking to work on an ad hoc freelance basis and would like to be added to our register of approved freelancers who can work in these areas of the world.

The Role

The Rig Inspection Electrical / Control Systems Engineer will undertake rig condition assessment inspections individually or as part of a multi-disciplined inspection team. The rig inspections will be conducted in both offshore and shipyard environments world-wide. The Electrical Engineer is to undertake rig inspection surveys of all electrical aspects of drillships, semi-submersible and Jack-Up type drilling rig including verification of correct and appropriate Ex-equipment installation. This being both on the marine and drilling package systems. The role will ideally suit a current or former Maintenance Supervisor / Chief Electrician with an in-depth technical knowledge of Marine and Drilling offshore systems. The candidate would possess a good attention to detail.

A good overview of applicable offshore regulations such as flag state, port state and industry standards and guidelines is required.

Roles and responsibilities

The Rig Inspection Electrical / Control Systems Engineer will work as part of the rig inspection team to complete project specific goals. Duties within these rig inspection projects will include:

  • Assisting were required with project planning
  • Conducting rig equipment assessments by both visual inspection and observing operability testing, identifying where any non-conformances occur
  • Assist in conducting site team progress and project reports
  • Working as part of an overall rig inspection team to meet project goals
  • Support onsite clients and rig owner crews to complete rig inspection projects in an efficient manner
  • Attending close out meetings with clients. Support the sales invoicing process including review and sign-off of invoices ensuring they are compliant with contractual requirements as well as capturing all appropriate chargeable elements
  • Support the Accounts Team to provide explanations of variances arising in Project financial performance
  • Attend regular client meetings and present project progress reports
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, for example Client management and regulatory bodies
