Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments on patients in the critical care unit; evaluate respiratory status, oxygenation, and ventilatory needs
  • Ventilator Management: Set up and manage mechanical ventilators for patients requiring respiratory support; monitor and adjust ventilator settings based on patient response and physician orders
  • Oxygen Therapy: Administer and monitor oxygen therapy for patients with respiratory insufficiency; ensure proper oxygen delivery systems are in place and functioning effectively
  • Airway Management: Assist with airway management procedures, including intubation and extubation; perform tracheostomy care and maintenance as needed
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Administer therapeutic aerosol medications and other respiratory treatments; conduct chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions and therapeutic interventions; provide instructions on home care and self-management
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care; participate in multidisciplinary rounds
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of respiratory assessments and interventions, including ventilator settings, oxygen levels, and patient responses
  • Emergency Response: Respond to respiratory emergencies in the critical care unit; assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as needed
