Research Officer

A global bank is standing up its India research and policy-insights desk, and the mandate keeps arriving faster than the desk can currently absorb it: economic notes, regulatory tracking, sector primers, ad hoc briefs before a client call. The desk needs a second layer under its senior researchers, someone who can take a research brief, work through the sources, and come back with a first draft that only needs sharpening, not rebuilding.

That is what a Research Officer does here. You will work under a senior researcher's direction rather than set your own agenda, which is exactly the trade this role makes: less ownership of what gets studied, more time actually doing the studying.

What lands on your desk

Most weeks bring a mix of recurring and ad hoc work: tracking data releases and regulatory updates relevant to the bank's coverage, pulling together sector and company notes from public filings and data sources, and drafting the first version of briefs that a senior researcher will review before they go out. You will also maintain trackers of ongoing themes so nothing that mattered last quarter gets lost this one.

• Track economic, regulatory, and sector developments relevant to the desk's coverage
• Draft research notes, briefs, and data summaries for senior review
• Maintain and update recurring trackers and reference files
• Pull and verify data from public filings, databases, and market sources

What we would want to see

2 to 6 years producing research under supervision, ideally in a bank, financial-research, or policy-adjacent setting, with the writing discipline to hand over a draft a senior person can trust. Strong Excel and data-gathering skills matter more here than an eye-catching thesis topic.
