Job Description Research Officer (Social Impact Research)

Role Purpose:

The Research Officer will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing social impact research to assess, monitor, and enhance the effectiveness of the organization's charitable initiatives. The role requires strong skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods, data management, and report writing to generate actionable insights that support evidence-based decision-making and demonstrate impact to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop research frameworks, tools, and methodologies to evaluate social programs and interventions.
  • Conduct baseline, midline, and endline studies to assess impact and progress.
  • Ensure ethical standards and informed consent in all research activities.
  • Collect primary and secondary data using surveys, interviews, focus groups, and field observations.
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative analytical methods to generate insights.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases, and documentation of research findings.
  • Prepare periodic reports, case studies, and presentations highlighting social impact.
  • Develop impact indicators and outcome measurement frameworks in alignment with project objectives.
  • Support monitoring & evaluation (M&E) processes to track progress.
  • Work closely with program teams to integrate research findings into program design and improvement.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, academic institutions, and research partners.
  • Train field staff on data collection tools and ethical research practices.
  • Document lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.
  • Present findings in internal forums, donor meetings, and external conferences.
  • Translate complex research into accessible insights for community and donor audiences.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • PhD in Social Science and master's degree in social sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, Statistics, Economics, or related field.
  • 23 years of relevant research experience, preferably in the development/charitable/nonprofit sector.
  • Proficiency in research methodologies (qualitative & quantitative).
  • Experience with statistical software (SPSS, STATA, R, NVivo, or similar) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with social impact frameworks (SDGs, Theory of Change, Logical Framework).
