Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute multi-step organic synthesis for APIs and intermediates at lab scale.
  • Conduct literature searches (SciFinder, Reaxys, etc.) to plan synthetic routes and understand prior art.
  • Develop and optimize synthetic methodologies with a focus on scalability, cost-effectiveness, and safety.
  • Perform purification techniques (crystallization, chromatography, distillation, etc.).
  • Analyze reaction intermediates and final products using analytical tools such as NMR, HPLC, GC, LC-MS, FTIR, etc.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of experimental procedures, observations, and data in lab notebooks and reports as per GLP/GMP guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Analytical R&D, Process Development, and Scale-Up teams to ensure smooth technology transfer.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and environmental guidelines during lab operations.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts during route development and scale-up.
  • Support patent writing and intellectual property documentation where applicable.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) or M. Pharm (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
  • Experience: 2 to 6 years in a synthetic chemistry or process R&D role, preferably in an API pharma company

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of organic reaction mechanisms and modern synthetic techniques.
  • Proficiency in lab equipment and handling air/moisture-sensitive reactions (if applicable).
  • Experience in scale-up considerations and working in kilo-lab/pilot plant (preferred).
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines (ICH, cGMP, etc.).
