Role Overview
We are looking for a Research Associate who combines a deep understanding of Public Finance with the technical capability to understand and develop Economic and Econometric Models.
The ideal candidate shall apply a systemic approach to problem-solving, understanding how fiscal decisions intersect with climate finance, technology, and regulatory frameworks. The candidate will play a critical role in converting complex financial information into actionable policy insights for government and corporate stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Public Finance & Data Analysis (Predominant Focus)
Public Data Utilization: Navigate and analyze public data sources (e.g., government budgets, economic surveys, NSSO data, RBI databases) to generate insights
Fiscal Analysis: Conduct rigorous analysis of macroeconomics and public finance, specifically looking at how state and central fiscal policies impact various sectors
Climate Finance Mobilisation: Evaluate financial mechanisms and funding flows related to climate action and sustainability
2. Economic & Econometric Modelling
Model Development: Design and execute economic and econometric models to forecast trends, assess policy impacts and simulate scenarios.
Quantitative Rigor: Utilize advanced data crunching and processing tools to handle large datasets, ensuring statistical accuracy and robustness in all research outputs.
3. Systemic Policy Research
Systems Thinking: Apply a holistic, systems-based lens to research questions, identifying feedback loops between economic policies, technology adoption, and environmental outcomes.
Sectoral Deep Dives: Conduct research in key sectors such as Energy/Power, Manufacturing, Urban Infrastructure, Mobility, Agriculture, analyzing the regulatory and legal policy landscapes that govern them.
Policy Translation: Convert technical financial modeling and data analysis into accessible narratives for policy consumption by non-technical stakeholders.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
High-Level Interaction: Interface effectively with senior officials from government bodies and the corporate sector.
Initiative: Lead and co-lead projects, showing initiative in organizational development.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Background and Technical Competencies
Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in economics finance, MBA, Public Policy, Law or Engineering or related fields.
Core Expertise: Deep understanding of Macroeconomics and Public Finance.
Modelling Skills: Proven ability to build and interpret Economic/Econometric models.
Data Proficiency: Working knowledge of data processing tools and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, STATA, or advanced Excel).
Research Track Record: Established credentials in research and publications are preferred.
Soft Skills & Attributes
Communication: Exceptional fluency in English (written and verbal). Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.
Problem Solving: A natural aptitude for systemic thinking and structured problem solving.
Interpersonal: Integrity, inclusivity, and the ability to work collaboratively.
Language: Proficiency in other vernacular languages is an added advantage.
