GITAM (Deemed to be University), a premier institution committed to excellence in teaching, research and innovation, invites applications from eligible and motivated candidates for the positions of Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Law, GITAM School of Law, Visakhapatnam. The appointments are for research-intensive faculty positions with limited but meaningful teaching and mentoring responsibilities, aligned with UGC norms and institutional regulations.
Areas of Specialization:
Applications are invited from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
1. Constitutional Law and Administrative Law
2. Criminal Law and Criminology
3. Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Law
4. International Law and International Trade Law
5. Corporate and Commercial Laws
6. Environmental Law and Human Rights
7. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR),
Mediation and Arbitration Candidates with strong inter-disciplinary research profiles (e.g., Law & Technology, Law & Economics, Law & Public Policy) are especially encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Publications:
All qualifications and experience shall be as per UGC Regulations on minimum qualifications for appointment of teachers in universities, read with any subsequent amendments, and as adopted by GITAM (Deemed to be University).
Assistant Professor (Research) – Law
Essential Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Law (LL.M) with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from a recognised Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
Ph.D. in Law (or in a closely allied discipline relevant to the advertised specialization), awarded in accordance with UGC regulations on Ph.D. (Minimum Standards and Procedure) or equivalent.[1]
Desirable / Research Profile:
Demonstrated research potential with at least 5 research publications in peer‑reviewed / UGC CARE‑listed / Scopus‑indexed journals or reputed edited volumes.
Evidence of participation in research projects, conferences, seminars, workshops, or moot court / clinical legal education initiatives.
Competence to contribute to ongoing or proposed research centres / projects in the School of Law.
Experience:
Fresh Ph.D. holders with a strong research profile may apply.
Prior teaching and/or research experience at a University / National Law University / reputed Law School / research institution will be an added advantage.
General Expectations for All Positions (Research Track):
In addition to cadre‑specific requirements, candidates on the research track will be expected to:
1. Conduct independent and collaborative research resulting in publications in high‑quality journals and books
2. Conceptualise, apply for and execute funded research projects (national / international funding agencies, government bodies, industry, etc.)
3. Contribute to research supervision, mentoring of LL.B / LL.M / Ph.D. students, and development of research culture in the School
4. Contribute to curriculum design, law school initiatives (moot courts, clinics, ADR centres, legal aid and outreach), and interdisciplinary collaborations
5. Engage with policy, industry and the profession (Bar, Bench, regulatory bodies, international organisations) through consultancies, training programmes, and knowledge‑transfer activities.
