Job Description

Research Analyst / Research Analyst II

Job ID: 21436

Location: Gurugram

Mode of Work: On-site (5 Days)

Department: Research / Consulting

Reporting To: Consultant / Senior Consultant / Engagement Lead

Employment Type: Permanent

Company Profile

Ken Research is a global market intelligence and consulting firm that supports decision-makers through market research, strategic consulting, survey intelligence, expert-led insight, and commercial due diligence support. The firm works across diverse business problem statements including market entry, opportunity assessment, growth strategy, competitive benchmarking, customer intelligence, investment analysis, and procurement intelligence.

At Ken Research, the research function is not limited to data gathering. It is expected to convert fragmented market signals into structured analysis, decision-grade outputs, and consulting-ready deliverables. This role sits at the core of that capability by combining secondary research, primary research, Excel-based analysis, forecasting, investment modeling, and PPT-based storyboarding into a single research workflow. This alignment is based on the responsibilities in your draft role description.

Role Overview

Ken Research is looking for a Research Analyst / Research Analyst II to work on syndicated and custom research mandates across sectors. The role requires strong capability in secondary research, primary research, data collation, Excel modeling, interpretation of industry signals, and preparation of client-ready PowerPoint deliverables.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working across the full lifecycle of a market research mandate — from understanding the client objective and defining the scope, to gathering evidence from multiple sources, validating hypotheses through primary interactions, building structured Excel models, and converting findings into clear, insightful, and consulting-grade presentations.

This role is suited for individuals who can combine analytical rigor, research discipline, business understanding, and structured storytelling.

Key Responsibilities1) Scope Building & Project Understanding
  • Build a structured scope aligned to the client requirement and learning outcome statement
  • Define research boundaries clearly, including time period, market definition, segmentation logic, research approach, and sample design where applicable
  • Participate in client kickoff discussions to understand project objectives, nuances, and expectations
  • Work with the reporting manager or mentor to define project timelines, milestones, and deliverable flow
2) Secondary Research
  • Identify the correct market definition, segment structure, pricing logic, product taxonomy, regional scope, and revenue/spend boundaries relevant to the assignment
  • Build the ecosystem of companies, stakeholders, channels, and business models within the target market
  • Collect and validate data from annual reports, company filings, industry databases, association publications, broker reports, yearbooks, DRHPs, articles, and other secondary sources
  • Develop initial hypotheses from available data and identify proxy indicators for demand-side and supply-side assessment
  • Use internal and external databases such as D&B Hoovers, Euromonitor, Statista, Marketline, and similar sources where relevant
3) Primary Research
  • Create and maintain a structured primary research tracker including respondent type, company, designation, outreach status, and interview notes
  • Identify relevant stakeholder categories for interviews including CXOs, business heads, distributors, channel partners, suppliers, customers, and sector experts
  • Conduct outreach through LinkedIn, email, phone, and other appropriate channels for expert and industry interactions
  • Coordinate with expert panels, translators, freelancers, and external support resources where required
  • Schedule and conduct CATIs, expert interviews, mystery shopping exercises, and validation calls
  • Support survey-based research through questionnaire hosting, response acquisition, response quality checks, and cross-tab analysis
4) Excel Deliverables & Analytical Modeling
  • Record all primary and secondary data points in a structured Excel format with time stamps, assumptions, definitions, and source references
  • Maintain source backups and build both internal working files and client-ready deliverable files
  • Perform demand-side and supply-side triangulation using standard consulting approaches such as top-down and bottom-up validation
  • Build future forecasting models using relevant macro and industry variables
  • Develop scenario-based models including base, best-case, and worst-case assumptions where applicable
  • Build investment models from scratch including 3–5 year P&L, ROI, payback period, and related commercial logic
  • Continuously improve analytical capability through tools such as Tableau, Python, SPSS, or related platforms, as referenced in the original draft.
5) Interpretation & Storyboarding
  • Convert raw data and research findings into a clear storyboard aligned to the client's learning outcome statement
  • Distill large volumes of information into key insights, takeaways, and implications
  • Prepare PowerPoint deliverables in a structured and consulting-grade format with clear sourcing, caveats, assumptions, and timestamped statistics
  • Build cohesive decks covering market size, competition, trends, drivers, challenges, pricing, business models, forecasts, and investment logic
  • Present findings internally to senior team members and support client presentations when required
  • Incorporate review feedback and refine deliverables based on internal and client expectations
6) Team Support & Capability Building
  • Support associates and analysts on project execution by clarifying data structures, identifying research gaps, and improving analytical rigor
  • Proofread Excel and PPT deliverables under the guidance of senior team members
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions, role plays, simulations, and capability development initiatives
  • Help improve consistency, quality, and structured thinking across the team
7) Business Development Support
  • Contribute to pitching and proposal support for prospective mandates
  • Maintain trackers of potential clients and support outreach for report sales or related business opportunities
  • Coordinate with internal business development teams on live opportunities and relevant market interest areas
  • Support post-report commercial follow-up where required
