Responsibilities
This role requires excellent Japanese language skills (reading, writing, and speaking) as these are essential for communication and business operations. You will conduct in-depth research on Japanese listed companies, generate investment recommendations, and contribute to our alpha generation. This role demands strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and native-level Japanese language proficiency.
Conduct in-depth fundamental research on Japanese listed companies across various sectors, focusing on identifying investment opportunities and risks
Build and maintain financial models to analyse company performance, valuations, and industry trends
Generate investment recommendations based on thorough analysis and due diligence
Monitor and analyse macroeconomic data and market trends relevant to the Japanese equity market
Conduct company meetings and industry conferences to gather information and insights
Prepare detailed research reports and presentations for the investment team
Maintain a deep understanding of Japanese accounting standards, corporate governance, and regulatory landscape
Collaborate effectively with other members of the investment team and contribute to the overall investment process
Requirements
Language Skills: Native or near-native fluency in Japanese (reading, writing, and speaking) or Japanese-Language Proficiency Test N1 or N2, in order to liaise with Japanese speaking stakeholders
Education: Bachelor's degree
CFA designation or progress towards CFA is a plus
Experience: 2-5 years of investment research experience at a buy-side or sell-side firm, with a focus on Japanese equities
Exceptional analytical and financial modelling skills
Strong understanding of financial statements, valuation methodologies, and investment principles
Proven ability to conduct thorough due diligence and generate insightful investment ideas
A strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and a think outside the box attitude
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
