We are looking to hire a Research Analyst – Agri Commodities with 3–5 years of relevant experience to join our Mumbai desk.
This is a high-ownership research role sitting at the intersection of fundamental analysis and active trading. The analyst will work closely with the trading team to build and sustain a differentiated research edge across key agricultural commodity markets.
Responsibilities
Fundamental Research & Market Analysis
•Track and analyse supply-demand dynamics across key agricultural commodities in both domestic and global markets.
•Analyse crop production data, acreage estimates and seasonal output trends on an ongoing basis.
•Analyse USDA WASDE reports and domestic government releases to build a structured view on supply fundamentals.
•Assess demand-side drivers including consumption patterns, export-import flows and end-use industry trends.
Macro, Policy & Weather Monitoring
•Track government policy developments including MSP revisions, export-import restrictions and trade measures, and assess their impact on price dynamics.
•Monitor monsoon progression, El Niño/La Niña forecasts, and regional weather events that materially influence crop output and price volatility.
•Stay current on global trade flows, currency movements, freight costs, and geopolitical developments that affect agri commodity supply chains.
Price Analysis & Trade Ideation
•Conduct price trend analysis across domestic and global exchanges including NCDEX, MCX, CBOT, Bursa Malaysia and Inter Continental Exchange.
•Identify seasonal patterns, basis relationships, and inter-commodity spreads to support trade structuring across futures and options.
•Contribute to directional market views, trade ideas and risk assessment frameworks in collaboration with the Trading Desk.
Data Infrastructure & Research Output
•Build and maintain fundamental databases covering supply and demand factors across agri commodities.
•Publish periodic research notes and market updates for internal consumption by the trading and portfolio management teams.
Research-to-Trading Interface
•Serve as a real-time information bridge between the Research Desk and Trading Desk, ensuring views are communicated clearly and acted upon effectively.
•Participate in regular market review discussions, contributing data-backed perspectives on current positioning and emerging opportunities.
Experience & Qualifications
•3–5 years of experience in commodity markets, with a strong focus on agricultural sectors such as edible oils, grains or soft commodities.
•Prior experience at a commodity trading firm, brokerage research desk, agri-focused fund, or FMCG/agribusiness with a market-facing research function is preferred.
•Strong academic credentials; a postgraduate degree in Economics, Agriculture, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
What We're Looking For
•Deep understanding of agri commodity fundamentals — supply-demand mechanics, seasonality and price behaviour across domestic and global markets.
•Familiarity with key global and domestic data sources like USDA, NAFED and state agriculture departments.
•Ability to read and interpret government policy announcements, trade data, and crop reports with speed and accuracy.
•Working knowledge of derivatives markets — futures and options — and how fundamental research translates into trade ideas.
•Exposure to commodity databases and research platforms; proficiency in Refinitiv Workspace, Bloomberg, or equivalent tools is an advantage.
•Strong analytical and quantitative skills; comfort working with large datasets and building structured models in Excel or similar tools.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills — ability to distil complex research into crisp, actionable insights.
•High ownership mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in markets.
