Key Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION

Power BI & Reporting Development

• Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and data models for business and executive audiences.
• Build DAX measures, calculated columns, and KPI logic; implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and report governance policies.
• Publish and manage reports via Power BI Service, including workspace management, scheduled refresh, and deployment pipelines.
• Develop SSRS paginated reports for operational or regulatory use cases requiring pixel-perfect formatting.
  
  

Team Leadership

• This role is structured as 75% hands-on technical delivery and 25% team leadership, requiring a candidate who is equally comfortable writing DAX and mentoring a developer.
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance and oversight to a small team of Power BI and reporting developers, reviewing work for quality, consistency, and adherence to standards.
• Support onboarding of new team members, conduct regular 1:1s, and contribute to individual development plans in collaboration with the Operations Manager.
• Act as the first point of escalation for complex reporting issues, coordinating resolution across the team and with the wider Data Engineering function.
  
  

Data Platform Awareness & SQL Development

• Write and optimize T-SQL queries against Fabric Warehouse and Lakehouse SQL endpoints, including CTEs, window functions, and views to support reporting layers.
• Understand and navigate a Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to identify the correct Gold-layer datasets for Power BI consumption — collaborating with the Data Engineering team where upstream changes are needed.
• Apply working knowledge of star and snowflake schema design to interpret existing data models and raise dimensional modeling concerns with the data engineering team.
• Conduct data profiling and quality checks on Gold-layer data, surfacing issues to the data engineering team for remediation upstream.
  
  

Stakeholder Collaboration & Requirements Gathering

• Partner with business stakeholders across Finance, Operations, HR, and IT to gather, document, and prioritize reporting requirements.
• Translate business requirements into functional technical specifications, data models, and report designs.
• Serve as the subject-matter expert on report capabilities, data availability, and BI best practices across the team.
  
  

Operations, Support & Continuous Improvement

• Provide Level 2/3 support for reporting applications, investigating and resolving data discrepancies and report failures.
• Monitor Fabric data refreshes and report pipelines, proactively addressing failures and surfacing upstream data issues.
• Document report logic, SQL views, and data flows; stay current with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric feature releases.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in a BI/reporting developer role, including time in a senior or lead capacity.
• Advanced proficiency in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including DAX and Power Query (M).
• Strong T-SQL skills: complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and stored procedures.
• Solid experience designing and implementing SSRS reports (tabular, matrix, parameterized, drilldown).
• Familiarity with Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and star/snowflake dimensional modeling – sufficient to work confidently with Gold-layer datasets and liaise with Data Engineering.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  
  

Preferred Skills & Nice-to-Haves

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, or Fabric Notebooks) – advantageous but not required.
• Exposure to additional BI platforms (Tableau, Qlik, Looker) or Azure data services (ADF, Synapse).
• Knowledge of Python or PowerShell for automation and scripting.
• Experience with Git/Azure DevOps for source control and CI/CD of BI artifacts.
