You will work closely with a small team that will provide direct support including student facing to a mixture of laboratories within the larger facility preparing them for teaching activities. The team facilitates the running and maintenance of a wide range equipment. Also undertaking the design, development, construction, modification and repairs to a wide variety of standard and specialised equipment.

Role

Work undertaken by the team is diverse and includes: Schematic capture and PCB layout, 3D CAD modelling, 3D printing, preparation of laboratory equipment for teaching, repair and maintenance of existing equipment.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Qualify as one of several Electrically Authorised/Competent Persons within the School support team.
  • Fault-finding, maintenance and repair of specialised high precision instruments, electronic, electrical and electromechanical.
  • Provide technical support to students and staff on a range of teaching and research projects including the design and build of bespoke electrical systems.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance, modification, repair and operation of a range of equipment, including specialised high precision instruments within the facility.
  • Supervise Electrically Competent Staff in the context of the Rotational Machines Laboratory and Renewable Energy Electrical Laboratory.

Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed

You will have:

  • Undergraduate degree, or equivalent relevant experience
  • RSci/REng, or willingness to work towards, or equivalent professional registration
  • In depth knowledge of 3 phase electrical systems
  • In depth knowledge of electronic test and measurement equipment
  • Demonstrable experience of designing, constructing, or maintaining electrical equipment
  • Excellent IT and analytical skills using a range of specialist software
  • Experience of training others in lab techniques and use of complex equipment
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and external stakeholders
  • Able to maintain a positive, open attitude toward others, to value and support colleagues. The ability to respond and integrate change and to demonstrate personal resilience
