Job Description
At Ruvimo, we provide personalized 1:1 online learning experiences for students across the US, helping them build stronger concepts, greater confidence, and independent thinking skills.
We're looking for passionate Social Sciences Tutors for higher-grade students who can help students understand the world around them — from historical events and political systems to economies, cultures, societies and global issues.
If you can turn a textbook chapter into a conversation that makes a student question, connect and think, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll TeachDepending on the student's grade, curriculum and learning requirements, you may teach:
- History – US, World & Modern History
- Geography & Human Geography
- Civics & Government
- Political Science fundamentals
- Economics fundamentals
- Sociology and social structures
- Culture, society and communities
- Global studies and international relations
- Environmental and social issues
- Current affairs and contemporary issues
- Research, source analysis and evidence-based reasoning
As a Ruvimo Social Sciences Tutor, you will:
- Conduct engaging 1:1 online Social Sciences sessions with middle and high school students in the US.
- Help students understand historical, political, economic and social concepts beyond rote memorization.
- Connect classroom concepts to real-world events and contemporary issues.
- Teach students to analyze primary and secondary sources, maps, graphs, charts and other forms of evidence.
- Help students understand different perspectives and develop well-supported arguments.
- Guide students in writing evidence-based answers, essays and research assignments.
- Develop students critical thinking, reasoning and analytical skills.
- Encourage students to ask questions, challenge assumptions and consider multiple perspectives.
- Support students with schoolwork, projects, assessments and exam preparation.
- Adapt lessons to the student's grade, curriculum, learning gaps and academic goals.
- Provide constructive feedback and track student progress.
You could be a great fit if you:
- Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Sciences, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Education or a related field.
- Have prior experience teaching or tutoring middle or high school students.
- Have strong conceptual knowledge across one or more Social Science disciplines.
- Can explain complex social, political, historical and economic concepts clearly.
- Are comfortable working with evidence, sources, data and arguments.
- Have excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Can encourage students to think critically rather than simply memorize information.
- Have experience with the US curriculum or similar academic frameworks, or are willing to learn.
- Are comfortable teaching through digital platforms.
- Have a stable internet connection and a professional setup for online teaching.
We're not looking for someone who simply asks students to memorize dates, definitions and facts.
We're looking for someone who asks:
Why did this happen
Whose perspective are we looking at
What evidence supports this argument
How does this connect to what is happening today
What might happen if this policy or decision changed
Because Social Sciences aren't just about knowing what happened.
They're about understanding why societies, economies, governments and communities work the way they do — and learning to think critically about the world around us.
