Job Brief
We are looking for a seasoned and result-driven Regional Sales Manager to lead and expand FMCG sales across Mumbai and Pune. This role is ideal for a hands-on sales leader with strong exposure to traditional FMCG channels, especially General Trade / Kirana stores as primary points of sale (POS).
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building distributor networks from scratch, driving aggressive product placement, and pushing volumes through effective commercial strategies such as advance payments and trade schemes.
You will play a critical role in strengthening market presence, expanding distribution reach, and leading large sales teams to deliver sustainable and profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and drive regional sales targets across all FMCG channels, with strong focus on General Trade / Kirana stores as key POS.
- Appoint distributors from the ground up, leveraging strong local market knowledge and existing distributor networks (this is a critical responsibility).
- Ensure aggressive product placement, visibility, and availability across all mapped outlets.
- Lead, guide, and motivate a large sales team (30+ members – direct and indirect) including ASMs, sales officers, and field executives.
- Drive market execution by regularly visiting markets to monitor sales performance, outlet coverage, competition activity, and consumer trends.
- Execute promotions, brand activations, visibility programs, and trade schemes in coordination with the head office.
- Demonstrate strong ability to push products using commercial mechanisms such as advance payments, trade margins, and distributor incentives.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance development of regional sales teams.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, reporting systems, and sales processes.
- Manage regional profitability, including margins, trade spends, distributor commercials, and operating costs.
Qualifications & Experience
- 8 to 12+ years of experience in FMCG sales, preferably in General Trade–driven businesses.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in people management, handling large teams (30+ members – direct + indirect).
- Strong exposure to FMCG products sold primarily through Kirana / GT outlets.
- Proven experience in appointing and managing distributors, with strong local distributor networking capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to drive aggressive product placement and market expansion.
- Strong commercial acumen, including advance payment models, trade schemes, and distributor negotiations.
- Excellent skills in sales planning, negotiation, distributor management, and performance analytics.
- Sound financial understanding and decision-making ability.
- Willingness to travel 40–60% within the assigned region.
