Job Description

Purpose / Key Objectives of the Job

  • Drive HSES compliance in warehouse safety, transport management, and stakeholder training while ensuring effective safety communication.
  • Manage cost and budget efficiently, driving continuous improvement to maintain cost within targets while enhancing delivery performance.
  • Oversee end-to-end distribution and logistics operations for multiple business units across the South India region.
  • Manage warehousing operations across five depots, including one major Regional Distribution Center (RDC).
  • Plan and prioritize finished goods dispatches, optimize fleet and space utilization, and ensure safe, damage-free transportation.
  • Implement efficient inventory management practices such as FIFO, JIT, TMS, and WMS.
  • Lead depot safety initiatives, including electrical safety, fire safety, and defensive driving programs for suppliers and transporters.
  • Manage depot infrastructure-related CAPEX including DG sets, ACs, office structures, and related facilities.
  • Influence sales teams, vendors, suppliers, and logistics partners (3PL, CFA) to achieve agreed KPIs and service levels.
  • Drive supply chain and logistics process improvements, develop SOPs, and optimize service efficiency and market delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with AkzoNobel HSES standards, guidelines, and statutory requirements across all depots.
  • Continuously enhance warehouse effectiveness and inventory accuracy through robust systems and controls.
  • Manage and improve 3PL performance and warehouse productivity.
  • Drive service level improvements—L-OTIF, pick list turnaround time, and on-time delivery.
  • Monitor and enhance transporter service levels and export compliance through CHA processes.
  • Maintain overall safety standards in warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Planning, Sales, Production, Commercial, Finance, and Quality to ensure smooth operations.
  • Lead and develop the logistics team to create a culture of accountability, HSE focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure proper process documentation and maintain records for internal and statutory requirements.
  • Manage scrap and SLOB disposal processes efficiently and sustainably.
  • Handle audits, inventory validation, market returns, and direct-to-site deliveries as per organizational standards.

Level of Autonomy

  • Operates independently with accountability for logistics and warehouse performance across the South region.
  • Collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver superior service against agreed SLAs.
  • Drives performance of 3PL partners, depot managers, and transporters to meet operational and service excellence goals.

Job Requirements

  • Engineering Degree / MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in logistics or distribution in a B2B/B2C environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE and sustainability standards as per AkzoNobel's logistics framework.
  • Proven experience in warehouse and distribution management across large geographic regions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Continuous Improvement mindset with focus on cost optimization and service enhancement.
  • Proficiency in ERP, TMS, and WMS systems preferred.
