TheRefractory Engineeris responsible for the planning, execution, and supervision ofrefractory works, insulation works (hot & cold),in industrial projects. The engineer will ensure refractory materials and insulation systems are installed per project requirements, safety regulations, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Refractory & Insulation Work Execution
- Supervise and executerefractory installation, repair, and maintenancein industrial furnaces, kilns, boilers, and other high-temperature equipment.
- Plan and overseehot & cold insulation worksincluding pipelines, equipment, and structures.
- Select appropriaterefractory materialssuch as fire bricks, cast able, ceramic fiber, and insulating concretes based on project specs and requirements/ needs.
2. Project Coordination & Supervision
- Lead and monitor insulation and refractory teams for quality and safety compliance.
- Coordinate with site teams for proper execution and meet project timelines.
- Ensure adherence toengineering drawings, specifications, and client requirements.
3. Quality Control & Inspection
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure proper refractory installation and insulation application.
- Identify defects or failures in refractory linings and insulation systems and recommend corrective measures.
- Ensure work aligns with international refractory and insulation standards (ASTM, API, ISO, BS).
4. Safety & Risk Management
- Enforce safety protocols for refractory works,hot & cold insulation,
- Ensure compliance withHSE regulationsand implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks with workers.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of materials, labour, and project progress.
- Prepare technical reports, work completion certificates, and inspection documentation.
- Communicate project updates to management and clients.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education:
- B.Tech/BE in Mechanical or Civil Engineering(Minimum 3 years of experience).
- Diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering(Minimum 6 years of experience).
- Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience in refractory installation and maintenance.
- Expertise inhot & cold insulation.
- Strong knowledge of refractory materials (fire bricks, castables, gunning materials, ceramic fibers).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting refractory drawings and insulation specifications.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in computers ie MS office
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in refractory and insulation projects inoil & gas, petrochemical, power plants, or heavy industries.
- Knowledge ofthermal performance calculationsand refractory testing procedures.
