Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop manufacturing tooling, welding fixtures, assembly fixtures, checking fixtures, and special-purpose tooling for railway rolling stock and component manufacturing.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, GD&T, welding specifications, and customer requirements to develop robust tooling solutions.
  • Create fixture concepts, detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), and assembly documentation.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and validate tooling designs to ensure dimensional accuracy, repeatability, and manufacturing capability.
  • Develop tooling with emphasis on manufacturability, operator safety, ergonomics, ease of maintenance, and cost optimization.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, production, welding, quality, procurement, and project teams throughout the tooling design and development lifecycle.
  • Support prototype builds, tooling trials, commissioning activities, and production ramp-up by resolving tooling-related issues.
  • Investigate manufacturing and tooling issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective design improvements.
  • Review Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and update tooling designs to support product revisions.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, railway industry standards, quality management systems, and internal engineering guidelines.
  • Prepare engineering documentation including design calculations, technical reports, design review presentations, manufacturing drawings, and work instructions.
  • Develop standardized tooling concepts, reusable fixture elements, and design best practices to improve engineering efficiency and reduce development time.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and support knowledge-sharing initiatives within the design team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling performance, manufacturing productivity, quality enhancement, and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and global engineering teams to ensure projects are delivered within scope, schedule, quality, and budget.
Preferred Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5 / V6.
  • Strong knowledge of fixture design principles, manufacturing processes, welding processes, machining, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Good understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 / ISO GPS) and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience in manufacturing drawings, BOM creation, and product lifecycle management (PLM/PDM) systems.
  • Knowledge of railway standards such as EN 15085, ISO 3834, EN 12663, and other relevant rolling stock manufacturing standards is preferred.
  • Familiarity with DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly), FMEA, and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
