The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy is currently looking for an R&D Test Lab Engineer to join the High Voltage business at DBR, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The role focuses on managing and executing laboratory testing activities for medium voltage capacitors while ensuring compliance with international standards and internal quality requirements. The position involves taking ownership of laboratory operations, implementing structured testing methodologies, and supporting product development and validation processes.

How You'll Make An Impact

  • Take full ownership and responsibility for laboratory operations, ensuring efficient and safe functioning.
  • Execute tests in accordance with established standards (IS, IEC, IEEE) and defined protocols.
  • Develop and support type test plans and manage laboratory schedules for optimized utilization.
  • Assess feasibility and readiness of testing activities and ensure timely execution.
  • Lead acquisition and commissioning of advanced machinery for the capacitor testing laboratory.
  • Manage NABL accreditation processes and ensure compliance with certification requirements.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and implement 5S practices within the laboratory environment.
  • Organize preventive maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of test results, procedures, and development reports.
  • Conduct testing of medium voltage capacitors and ensure smooth operations across all shifts.
  • Support GPS, Engineering, and Production teams with insights derived from testing results.
  • Adhere to change management processes and ensure standardized workflows are followed.
  • Prepare analytical reports, assembly instructions, and detailed test procedures.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) to identify issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders for smooth project execution.
  • Support commissioning activities and ensure adherence to testing protocols and procedures.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 2–3 years of experience in testing, laboratory operations, or related engineering roles.
  • Basic understanding of testing standards such as IS, IEC, and IEEE.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment handling, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to work in shifts and support operational requirements.
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English is required.
