Job Description

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer (EDM) is responsible for the design, development, testing, and validation of mechanical systems for Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM). This role supports Makino Asia's R&D objectives by delivering reliable, high-performance, and safe mechanical designs that meet product quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and evaluate mechanical systems for EDM machines, including motion drive systems, machine structures and mechanisms, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Support prototype assembly, system integration, commissioning, and testing activities during the product development phase.
  • Analyze test results and implement design improvements or corrective actions to enhance machine performance, reliability, stability, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, software, manufacturing, and application engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support cross-functional projects.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including mechanical drawings, engineering specifications, test reports, design change records, and technical documents.
  • Ensure compliance with Makino's quality standards, engineering processes, and QEHS requirements.
  • Provide technical and engineering support to manufacturing, service, and customer support teams when required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and engineering processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, precision machinery, and motion control mechanisms.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Willingness to travel for on-site customer support, machine commissioning, and service activities when required.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a strong interest in high-precision manufacturing and machine tool technologies.
  • Prior experience or exposure to machine tools, EDM machines, or related industries will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn new technologies and engineering practices.
