About the Role

The R&D Manager will lead end-to-end development of heavy machinery and mechanical products, from concept to commercialization. This role demands strong ownership of product purpose, design challenges, in-house equipment development, and team leadership, ensuring innovative and manufacturable solutions aligned with business objectives. The role will focus on the design and development of waste management equipment for Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete product lifecycle: concept ideation, purpose definition, challenge identification, design, development, testing, deployment, and commercialization.
  • Drive design-to-development of heavy machinery and complex mechanical systems.
  • Oversee in-house equipment development end-to-end, from concept to production readiness.
  • Translate functional and business requirements into robust mechanical designs.
  • Ensure products meet performance, cost, safety, quality, and manufacturability targets.
  • Guide prototype development, testing, validation, and iterative design improvements.
  • Maintain accurate design documentation, BOMs, drawings, and engineering change records.
  • Coordinate activities from concept development to installation and commissioning.
  • Manage vendors, suppliers, and external manufacturing partners.

Eligibility Criteria

  • B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (M.Tech preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in R&D or mechanical product development.
  • Proven experience in heavy machinery or industrial equipment development.
  • Strong exposure to complete product development cycles.

Technical & Reporting Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review 3D models, technical drawings, and BOMs using tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and ANSYS.
  • Perform mechanical analysis, cost estimation, and validation planning.
  • Coordinate testing, trials, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, quality, and industry standards.
  • Report project progress, risks, timelines, and technical status to senior management.
  • Support audits, technical reviews, and cross-functional reporting.

  • Expertise in manufacturing processes, materials selection, and fabrication techniques.

  • Willingness to work hands-on with prototypes and shop-floor teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with vendors and suppliers is an added advantage.
