Your role and responsibilities

This role leads the ABB Robotics India R&D organization, with full responsibility for site-level R&D delivery, people leadership, innovation outcomes, and operational excellence. The role partners closely with the Global CTO and Global R&D Leadership Team to implement global technology priorities, build future-ready capabilities, and deliver high-quality, differentiated R&D outcomes that strengthen ABB Robotics market position and profitability.

As Head of R&D for India, you will lead a world-class team developing cutting-edge robotics and Physical Al technologies for a rapidly growing global market, while representing R&D within the local country leadership team and the wider external ecosystem

This role is contributing to the ABB Robotics India R&D organization in Bangalore, India.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Lead and represent the India R&D organization to deliver high‑quality R&D outcomes aligned with ABB Robotics technology leadership, profitability, and delivery commitments, with full accountability for quality, timelines, and development efficiency.
  • Drive a strong innovation culture and contribute to ABB Robotics global Physical AI and technology roadmaps by translating strategic vision into executable product and platform roadmaps owned by the India site.
  • Ensure execution excellence across R&D projects by leveraging automation and AI‑enabled toolchains to improve productivity, predictability, and development effectiveness.
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers, architects, and product owners while building future‑critical competencies in next‑generation robotics and Physical AI, fostering high engagement through transparent and agile leadership.
  • Own site‑level R&D operations including quality, HSE, integrity, HR, finance, supply chain, and governance, ensuring full compliance and role‑modeling ABB's quality, safety, and ethics standards.
  • Define and execute the India R&D site strategy aligned with global R&D and footprint plans, representing R&D within the country leadership team and externally across the ecosystem.
  • Collaborate closely with global R&D teams on strategy deployment, capability building, resource planning, and talent development in a multi‑site, multicultural environment.

Qualifications for the role
  • Overall 12+ years of experience, with 5+ years in product development, technology leadership, project management, and/or people leadership roles.
  • Proven experience in a techno‑managerial leadership role, covering people leadership, technology ownership, and delivery in fast‑paced, multi‑site, multicultural, agile product development environments.
  • Strong technical expertise in robotics systems, including software, hardware, simulation, and applications, with a solid foundation in platform‑based design, modularity, and scalable architectures.
  • Demonstrated exposure to AI, particularly embodied or physical AI, or a proven ability to apply AI to accelerate development and improve engineering efficiency.
  • Ability to translate strategic vision into actionable technology and product roadmaps, driving execution and measurable business outcomes.
  • Proven track record of driving innovation that creates business value while maintaining high engagement across teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong people leadership capabilities with a transparent, servant‑leader mindset and an agile way of working.
  • Solid business acumen with a results‑oriented approach, balancing speed, quality, cost, and compliance.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a global environment, working across cultures, geographies, and diverse stakeholder groups.
