  • We are looking for an R&D Engineer to newly established ABB's Competence Center in Nashik, India, to contribute to the development of innovative products and technologies within Low Voltage switchgear solutions.

The work model for the role is: #LI-onsite

This role is contributing to the Electrification business in Smart Power division at Nashik, India

Your role and responsibilities:

  • As an R&D Engineer, you will be an independent contributor in development projects, supporting the full product lifecycle - from concept to implementation and maintenance

  • Contribute to the development of new technologies, products, and solutions by proposing and implementing innovative ideas.

  • Execute engineering tasks across the full lifecycle: requirements, design (2D/3D mechanical for both assembly and parts, including BOM), implementation, testing, and validation

  • Work independently while collaborating within cross-functional R&D teams

  • Identify technical problems and proactively contribute to solutions

  • Apply engineering standards, tools, and best practices to ensure quality and efficiency

  • Ensure delivery against project targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and manage risks

  • Contribute to product quality improvements and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Document technical work (designs, results, reports) in a structured and reusable way

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and actively contribute to team objectives

  • Participate in IP creation and support innovation and patent activities

Qualifications for the role

  • Diploma / Bachelor's / Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in R&D, product development, or engineering projects in Low Voltage Switchgear.

  • Strong knowledge of Low Voltage Switchgear systems and IEC 61439-2 standards.

  • Proficiency in engineering design tool i.e SolidWorks and experience with product development processes.

  • Experience in preparing engineering documentation, including 2D/3D drawings, BOMs, product configurator data, and assembly/engineering instructions.

  • Solid technical expertise in electrical or mechanical engineering, with the ability to translate customer specifications and Voice of Customer (VoC) into technical solutions.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering calculation skills using mathematical and physical principles.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and English language skills, with the ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team.
