What Your Role Entails
To work in architecting and executing the organization's R&D systems, including New Product Development (NPD), PLM, ECN management, and BOM management. This role will drive deployment of key R&D processesDFMEA, DFA, Tolerance Stacking, Software standardizationand digitalization of R&D workflows. The mandate is to drive seamless process orientation, elevate R&D productivity, shorten time-to-market, and ensure data integrity for strategic decision-making. The incumbent will drive operational excellence by standardizing R&D frameworks, digitizing reporting and dashboards, implementing advanced systems, and ensuring robust governance across the product lifecycle. Role includes driving process adherence and key training such as for FMEA and DFMEA.
What You'll Do:
- Build the digitalisation roadmap for R&D processes & systems, and execute in a phased manner.
- Deliver and maintain a standardized, scalable R&D process framework aligned with business strategy.
- Lead PLM implementation or enhancement efforts, including workflows, data structures, and integration with SAP.
- Lead next stage of implementations to evolve PLM systems to include partners, vendors and external testing stakeholders.
- Leverage AI/ML in digital design processes for productivity enhancement & first time right output.
- Develop and update process documentation, templates, and guidelines.
- Deliver user requirements, system configurations, testing scripts, and rollout plans.
- Ensure PLM adoption and data quality across engineering teams.
- Establish and maintain a robust Engineering Change Management (ECN/ECO) system.
- Resolve cross-functional issues and ensure design intent is maintained through the product lifecycle.
- Deliver key design/technical training programs and capability-building sessions for teams on processes, tools, and best practices.
- Ensure adherence to stage-gate/NPD governance across all engineering and product development teams.
- Ensure tracking and reporting milestones, risks, mitigations, and resource allocations.
- Drive technology scouting, feasibility studies, and R&D concept evaluations for process & systems.
- Identify process gaps and deliver improvement initiatives for R&D, NPD, and engineering operations.
- Deliver design documentation, test records, and audit-ready files.
- Maintain configuration control and documentation integrity across product lifecycle stages.
Your success is grounded in
- B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech - Electronics/ Electrical/Instrumentation/Mechanical with 20+ years of hands on experience
- Proven expertise in designing, implementing and governing R&D processes and systems to support business strategy, product development and product lifecycle management goals.
- Extensive end-to-end experience in New Product Development (NPD), including concept generation, feasibility analysis, design, validation, industrialization, and launch.
- Hands-on experience executing and managing full lifecycle NPD projects, ensuring alignment with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and commercial requirements.
- Strong understanding of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system implementation for complex mechanical, electronics and multi-disciplinary systems- including configuration, workflow creation, and data model setup.
- Experience leading large-scale transformation programs and innovation portfolios, including milestone planning, cross-functional coordination, risk management, and resource allocation.
- In-depth knowledge of BOM (Bill of Materials) structures, configuration rules, and Change Management systems (ECN/ECO processes) to maintain product integrity and traceability.
- Implement and manage a robust system for timesheet reporting within R&D, linking resource utilization and effort data directly to project cost and ROI analysis for strategic investment prioritization.
- Skilled in leading cross-functional initiatives and aligning stakeholders across R&D, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Finance teams.
- Expertise in key R&D areas 3D modelling, 2D design, tolerance management, DFMEA, FMEA, and integration of complex mechanical, electronic, electrical & software systems.
- Strong capability in driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering operational excellence within technical and engineering organizations.
- Adept at introducing best practices, standardizing processes, and optimizing workflow efficiency to enhance R&D productivity and shorten time-to-market.
- Expertise in program management, PMO, business reporting including time sheets and budgeting.
- Expert in product development process & past experience in leading R&D design teams.
