As SAN Automotive strengthens its quality systems, SOPs, digital documentation, and customer quality performance, we are looking for a capable Quality Engineer who can maintain quality standards, create practical SOPs, regularize systems, and ensure long-term quality discipline on the shop floor.
Position OverviewThe Quality Engineer will be responsible for managing quality activities across sheet metal stamping, fabrication, welding, inspection, documentation, and customer quality requirements.
This role is not limited to basic inspection. The candidate should be able to create SOPs, maintain inspection standards, update records in software, track quality issues, follow up on corrective actions, and ensure that quality systems are implemented and sustained.
The ideal candidate should understand sheet metal parts, dimensional inspection, welding quality, process control, rejection analysis, customer quality standards, and shop-floor quality discipline.
Key Responsibilities1. Quality System Implementation- Implement and maintain quality systems across press shop, weld shop, fabrication, and dispatch.
- Create, update, and standardize SOPs, work instructions, inspection standards, and quality formats.
- Ensure quality procedures are followed consistently by production and inspection teams.
- Maintain quality data and documents in the company's software or digital system.
- Ensure quality documentation is accurate, updated, and audit-ready.
2. Inspection and Process Quality- Conduct and monitor incoming, in-process, and final inspection of sheet metal and fabricated components.
- Check dimensions, bends, holes, burrs, surface finish, weld quality, assembly fitment, and visual defects.
- Use measuring instruments such as vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, gauges, fixtures, and other inspection tools.
- Ensure parts are inspected as per customer drawings, control plans, inspection standards, and approved samples.
- Identify quality issues during production and take immediate containment action.
3. SOP Creation and Standardization- Prepare SOPs for inspection methods, process checks, defect identification, rework control, rejection handling, and customer-specific requirements.
- Develop part-wise inspection check sheets and process-wise quality standards.
- Define quality checkpoints for critical operations.
- Standardize formats for rejection reports, inspection reports, daily quality reports, and corrective action tracking.
- Train operators, inspectors, and supervisors on SOPs and quality standards.
- Ensure SOPs are practically followed on the shop floor.
4. Digital Documentation and Software Usage- Maintain inspection reports, rejection data, customer complaints, corrective actions, SOPs, and quality records in ERP/software.
- Ensure timely and accurate entry of quality data.
- Track pending quality actions and follow up with concerned departments.
- Use software to improve traceability, accountability, and reporting.
- Prepare quality MIS reports for management review.
5. Rejection, Rework and Non-Conformity Control- Monitor internal rejection, rework, customer rejection, and recurring defects.
- Analyze root causes related to material, tooling, process, machine, manpower, or method.
- Coordinate with production, tool room, maintenance, and NPD teams for corrective actions.
- Maintain non-conformity records and ensure timely closure.
- Support CAPA, 8D, 5 Why, and other problem-solving activities.
- Track repeated issues and ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented.
6. Customer Quality Support- Support customer quality requirements, audits, complaints, and corrective action responses.
- Ensure customer-specific inspection standards and documentation requirements are followed.
- Prepare customer-wise quality records and inspection reports.
- Support containment, sorting, rework, and root cause analysis for customer complaints.
- Coordinate with internal teams to close customer quality issues on time.
7. Sheet Metal and Fabrication Quality Control- Understand quality aspects of sheet metal stamping, bending, forming, welding, fabrication, and assembly.
- Identify issues such as burrs, cracks, dents, scratches, dimensional variation, springback, hole misalignment, weld defects, and fitment problems.
- Monitor process quality during press shop and fabrication operations.
- Work with tool room and production teams to resolve tool-related and process-related defects.
- Support development and approval of new parts from a quality perspective.
8. Audit Readiness and Compliance- Maintain documents required for customer audits, internal audits, and system audits.
- Ensure inspection records, SOPs, calibration records, control plans, corrective actions, and quality formats are updated.
- Support Quality Manager / MR in audit preparation and closure of audit observations.
- Maintain discipline in documentation and record control.
9. Cross-Functional Coordination- Work closely with production, NPD, tool room, maintenance, purchase, dispatch, and senior management.
- Communicate quality issues clearly and follow up until closure.
- Ensure production teams understand and follow required quality standards.
- Escalate repeated quality issues or non-compliance to senior management.
- Build a culture of accountability, discipline, and quality ownership.
Qualifications and Requirements- Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related technical field.
- Experience in quality assurance, process quality, inspection, or quality systems in a manufacturing setup.
- Experience in sheet metal stamping, metal fabrication, welding, automotive components, or engineering manufacturing will be strongly preferred.
- Good understanding of inspection methods, measuring instruments, engineering drawings, tolerances, and quality documentation.
- Ability to create SOPs, inspection standards, check sheets, and quality reports.
- Comfortable using ERP/software systems, MS Excel, MS Word, email, and digital documentation tools.
- Knowledge of rejection analysis, root cause analysis, CAPA, 8D, 5 Why, and basic quality tools.
- Ability to work with shop-floor teams and senior management.
- Strong communication skills in Hindi and English.
- Strong follow-up discipline and ability to close quality issues on time.
Preferred Skills- Experience in press shop, weld shop, fabrication, and sheet metal component inspection.
- Knowledge of control plans, process flow charts, inspection standards, calibration, and audit documentation.
- Experience in maintaining quality records in ERP or quality management software.
- Understanding of customer quality requirements in automotive component manufacturing.
- Ability to train operators and inspectors on inspection methods and SOPs.
- Exposure to ISO / IATF systems, customer audits, internal audits, and documentation control.
- Strong Excel skills for quality MIS, rejection analysis, and reporting.
