Role Description
This is a part-time remote role for a Quality Assurance Engineer. The Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for executing various software tests, developing and documenting test cases, and performing both manual and automated testing to ensure product quality. The role involves identifying defects, reporting issues to the development team, and ensuring a seamless product experience for end-users.
Key Responsibilities• Design and execute test plans for RESTful APIs and backend services built in Python
• Validate data integrity, error handling, edge cases, and performance across API endpoints
• Write automated API tests using tools such as pytest, Postman, or equivalent frameworks
• Test integration points between backend services, Azure cloud infrastructure, and third-party APIs
Frontend Testing• Test React + TypeScript + Tailwind frontend applications across browsers and devices
• Validate UI/UX flows, form validations, responsive design, and accessibility standards
• Identify visual regressions, layout issues, and cross-browser compatibility problems
• Collaborate with frontend developers on component-level testing strategies
Quality Ownership• Review pull requests and code changes with a quality-first mindset
• Build and maintain automated test suites (unit, integration, end-to-end)
• Define QA processes, testing standards, and bug reporting workflows as the first QA hire
• Track and report on quality metrics, test coverage, and defect trends
• Participate in sprint planning and provide effort estimates for testing activities
Collaboration• Work directly with the development team — attending standups, reviewing specs, and providing early feedback
• Partner with founders to prioritise quality efforts based on business impact
• Document test cases, known issues, and regression scenarios for knowledge sharing
Requirements• 4–5+ years of hands-on experience in software QA or test engineering
• Strong understanding of code — ability to read and comprehend Python and TypeScript / JavaScript
• Proven experience testing RESTful APIs (Postman, pytest, requests, or similar)
• Experience testing modern frontend applications (React preferred)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into deployment workflows
• Self-driven and proactive — you identify what needs testing without being told
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have• Experience with Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium for end-to-end testing
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services (App Service, Functions, DevOps)
• Experience with AI/ML product testing or chatbot testing
• Knowledge of Tailwind CSS and component library testing
• Experience in a startup or early-stage environment
• Understanding of Australian real estate or education technology domains
