We are looking for an experienced and technically competent QA/QC Engineer with a strong background in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, dimensional quality control, and non-destructive testing.
The candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end quality inspection activities across the structural steel fabrication process, ensuring compliance with approved engineering drawings, welding procedures, industry standards, and project-specific quality requirements.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on factory experience in structural steel fabrication and the ability to independently handle inspection activities, identify quality deviations, coordinate corrective actions, and maintain quality documentation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Structural Steel Fabrication Inspection
- Conduct stage-wise and final inspections of fabricated structural steel components, including beams, columns, rafters, girders, bracings, and welded assemblies.
- Verify fabrication activities against approved GA drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Inspect cutting, fit-up, welding, drilling, assembly, straightening, and finishing operations.
- Perform dimensional inspections to verify alignment, length, width, depth, straightness, squareness, camber, and hole positioning.
- Identify fabrication defects and coordinate corrective actions with production teams.
2. Welding Inspection & Quality Control
- Conduct pre-welding, in-process, and post-welding inspections.
- Verify joint preparation, root gaps, bevel angles, weld sizes, and fit-up conditions as per approved WPS.
- Inspect SMAW, GMAW/MIG-MAG, and SAW welding processes.
- Identify welding defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, slag inclusion, lack of fusion, and incomplete penetration.
- Coordinate welding repairs, rectification, and reinspection activities.
- Maintain welding inspection records and ensure weld quality compliance.
3. NDT & Welder Qualification Testing
- Perform, supervise, and coordinate NDT activities as per project requirements.
- Possess valid NDT Level II certification in at least one of the following methods: UT, RT, or DPT.
- Identify and evaluate welding defects according to applicable acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate with external NDT laboratories and third-party inspection agencies.
- Handle and coordinate Welder Qualification Tests (WQT), including test-piece preparation, identification, marking, and inspection.
- Review UT, RT, guided bend, fracture test, and other laboratory reports.
- Maintain welder qualification records, NDT reports, and related documentation.
4. Raw Material Inspection
- Inspect incoming steel plates, structural sections, and other raw materials.
- Verify Material Test Certificates (MTCs), material grades, thickness, dimensions, and identification markings.
- Ensure proper material traceability and maintain incoming inspection records.
- Identify material discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions.
5. Painting & Final Inspection
- Inspect fabricated components before surface preparation and painting.
- Monitor surface preparation and painting as per approved specifications.
- Conduct Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurements.
- Identify coating defects and coordinate rectification.
- Provide final quality clearance before dispatch.
6. Quality Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare Daily Quality Inspection Reports and stage-wise inspection records.
- Maintain dimensional, welding, NDT, painting, and final inspection reports.
- Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and coordinate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, and quality documentation.
- Ensure inspection equipment is properly calibrated.
- Support internal quality audits, client inspections, and third-party inspections.
7. Production Coordination
- Coordinate with production engineers, fabrication supervisors, welders, and fitters.
- Identify recurring quality issues and recommend preventive measures.
- Minimize rework, rejection, and material wastage.
- Ensure timely inspection and quality clearance without affecting production schedules.
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
