Job Description: QA Engineer - 5G Device
Role Overview T
he 5G Device Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring the end-to-end quality of LTE and 5G devices, including smartphones and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) products. The role focuses on defining comprehensive test strategies, executing detailed validation cycles, managing defects, and driving automation initiatives. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, reliable, and customer-centric telecom devices by collaborating with cross-functional teams across product, network, and engineering domains. Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Define and develop test scope, test strategy, and test plans for LTE/5G devices, ensuring full coverage of functional, protocol, and customer experience scenarios.
- Prepare and maintain test data, test cases, and requirement traceability matrices (RTM) aligned with product requirements.
- Perform end-to-end QA validation, including: o Sanity and regression testing o Functional and feature validation o Protocol testing (LTE/NR/IMS) o Customer experience and field scenario validation
- Identify, log, track, and manage defects throughout the defect lifecycle, including: o Root Cause Analysis o Debugging device and network issues o Driving corrective and preventive actions o Analyze logs (ADB, Layer 3 signaling such as NAS/RRC) to diagnose issues and provide detailed technical insights.
- Collaborate with chipset vendors, OEMs, and network teams to troubleshoot interoperability and performance issues.
- Create and review technical documentation, including: o Release notes o Technical bulletins o Installation and deployment guides
- Identify opportunities for test automation, define automation strategy, and support development of automation frameworks and scripts.
- Support field testing, network optimization, and real-world issue resolution for deployed devices.
- Take ownership of assigned products, ensuring timely delivery, quality benchmarks, and continuous improvement.
- Stay updated with evolving 5G technologies, features, and industry trends. Required Skills & Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of LTE, IMS, and 5G NR protocols, including signaling procedures and feature validation.
- Hands-on experience in device testing across: o Smartphones o 5G CPE (IDU/ODU) o MiFi devices and dongles
- Proficiency in log analysis and debugging, including: ADB logs & Layer 3 analysis (NAS, RRC, PHY layers)
- Experience with chipset tools: Qualcomm / MediaTek /UNISOC
- Familiarity with network simulators and test tools such as: Anritsu/Keysight
- Knowledge of VoLTE/IMS testing, call flows, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in test automation, scripting using Python or similar languages.
- Understanding of network performance optimization and field issue handling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and documentation skills for cross-team collaboration.
Experience & Qualifications
- 8 + years with 2+ years of experience in LTE/NR protocol testing with strong knowledge of LTE, IMS, and NR functions and features.
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field.
