About the Role
Office Beacon is looking for a Junior Python Engineer to join our engineering team and develop practical experience in backend development, Python programming, API development, automation, and software engineering.
This is an entry-level engineering position suitable for candidates with 0–1 year of relevant experience, including internships, academic projects, personal projects, or other hands-on technical experience.
You will work closely with senior engineers to build, test, debug, and improve Python-based applications, APIs, automation scripts, and internal tools.
Key Responsibilities
Python Development
- Develop and maintain Python applications, utilities, backend modules, and internal tools.
- Write clean, readable, and maintainable Python code.
- Apply Python programming fundamentals to real-world engineering requirements.
- Follow established coding standards and software development practices.
API & Backend Development
- Assist in developing backend APIs using Python and FastAPI.
- Build and maintain REST APIs with guidance from senior engineers.
- Work with HTTP requests, responses, JSON data, validation, and basic error handling.
- Test APIs using Postman, Swagger, or similar tools.
- Assist with API documentation and integrations.
Automation & Scripting
- Develop Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks and workflows.
- Build utilities for file processing, data handling, system tasks, and internal processes.
- Assist with automation workflows and productivity tools.
- Troubleshoot and improve existing Python scripts.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual and repetitive work through automation.
Database & Data Handling
- Work with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or SQLite.
- Write and execute basic SQL queries.
- Perform basic database operations under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Work with files, structured data, APIs, and third-party integrations.
- Assist with data validation, transformation, and processing.
Debugging & Testing
- Debug Python scripts, APIs, logs, and application workflows.
- Participate in testing and bug-fixing activities.
- Investigate errors and identify potential causes.
- Assist in improving application reliability and quality.
- Follow established testing and software quality practices.
Software Engineering & Collaboration
- Work with senior developers, QA engineers, and product teams to understand requirements.
- Break requirements into manageable development tasks.
- Participate in code reviews and apply technical feedback.
- Use Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
- Document technical work, APIs, scripts, and setup procedures when required.
- Support deployment and software maintenance activities as needed.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 0–1 year of relevant experience, including internships, academic projects, personal projects, or hands-on technical experience.
- Strong foundation in Python programming.
- Understanding of core programming concepts such as variables, functions, loops, conditions, data structures, and error handling.
- Basic understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, and JSON.
- Basic understanding of SQL and database concepts.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
- Hands-on Python experience through at least one academic, internship, personal, or project-based application.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read technical documentation and apply new concepts.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Experience with Postman or Swagger for API testing/documentation.
- Exposure to PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or SQLite.
- Experience building Python automation scripts.
- Familiarity with file-processing or data-processing libraries.
- Exposure to web scraping or browser automation.
- Basic familiarity with Docker and Linux.
- Exposure to cloud deployment or software deployment workflows.
- Experience using GitHub pull requests and participating in code reviews.
- Academic or personal projects demonstrating practical Python/backend development.
