Job Description

Reports to: Class Teacher and the appropriate Head of Section

Job overview:

A Teaching Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting teachers to deliver high-quality, inclusive

education. The position is designed to foster an engaging and safe learning environment by

assisting with daily teaching activities, supporting individual and group learning, and ensuring

the smooth operation of the learning environment and broader school routines.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

1. Learning Environment Preparation and Instructional Support

Daily Preparation: Assist the teacher in planning and organizing the learning environment

materials, resources, and displaysincluding digital learning aids.

Resource Management: Help set up and update displays and bulletin boards to create

an inviting and stimulating learning environment.

Technology Integration: Support the use of digital devices to enhance student

engagement and learning experiences.

2. Learning Support and Student Engagement

Individual and Group Assistance: Work with individual students or small groups under

the teacher's direction to reinforce lesson content and provide differentiated support.

Assessment and Feedback: Utilize assessment checklists and observation tools to

monitor student progress, and regularly share insights with the teacher to inform

instructional decisions.

Inclusive Practices: Support students with diverse learning needs, ensuring all learners

have access to the curriculum and appropriate modifications or extensions.

3. Learning environment Management and Supervision

Behavioral Guidance: Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment

atmosphere by guiding students in developing effective social skills and cooperative

learning behaviors.

Supervision: Maintain order and ensure student safety during transitions, between

classes, and throughout break times and lunchtimes as per the duty rota.

Routine Management: Assist with daily routines such as washing and toilet routines,

ensuring a smooth flow of the school day.

4. Administrative and Record-Keeping Duties

Assessment Marking: Support teachers in marking objective assessments (e.g.,

multiplication, spelling tests) and recording student outcomes.

Documentation: Assist in maintaining up-to-date class files, records, and inventories of

supplies and equipment.

Logistics Support: Help prepare and manage supply orders and routine maintenance

requests to ensure the learning environment remains well-resourced and safe.

5. Extra-Curricular and Substitute Support

School Activities: Contribute to the organization and execution of one after school

activity, school events, and initiatives that enrich the learning environment.

Substitution Duties: Provide support or serve as a substitute for teaching staff during

periods of absence, as agreed with the appropriate principal.

6. Professional Development and School Engagement

Ongoing Training: Participate in professional development opportunities, training

workshops, and in-service sessions to enhance teaching support skills.

Policy Adherence: Stay informed about and comply with all school policies, procedures,

and safeguarding practices.

Ethical Conduct: Maintain a high standard of ethical behavior and confidentiality, acting

as a role model for students and colleagues alike.

Hours of Work

Standard Hours: The working day for full-time teaching staff is from 7:30 am until 4:00

pm.

Additional Commitments: Attendance at school events, evening functions, and weekend

professional development sessions may occasionally be required.
