Job description
PV Designer US Solar | Residential & Commercial
We are hiring PV Designers with hands-on experience in US Residential and/or Commercial Solar PV Design.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare PV layouts and permit-ready design/plan sets for US solar projects.
- Develop roof/module layouts, equipment layouts and electrical drawings.
- Prepare SLD/Three-Line Diagrams and electrical details.
- Review site surveys, roof measurements and electrical information.
- Perform system sizing, string sizing and basic electrical calculations.
- Ensure designs comply with NEC, AHJ, utility and fire-code requirements.
- Handle design revisions based on QC, client, AHJ and utility comments.
- Complete projects accurately within defined TAT and quality standards.
- Complete Design for Roof Mount/Ground Mount/Battery, etc. residential solar projects, while maintaining an 85% quality standard.
- Ensure 100% efficiency in project design and execution.
- Review and/or develop site assessment data, including shading, structural, and electrical analysis, to inform final system designs.
- Create, review, and modify drawing sets using AutoCAD and custom software tools.
- Conduct engineering calculations and generate Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Research, document, and adhere to local and national code requirements in project jurisdictions.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of all photovoltaic (PV) equipment components and provide technical support as needed.
- Manage project workflow, meeting daily and weekly deliverables as outlined by the direct supervisor.
- Maintain prompt responsiveness to emails and phone calls, efficiently multitasking under tight deadlines.
- Mentor team members and facilitate knowledge transfer within the department.
- Maintain an error sheet to track and address any design discrepancies.
- Complete mandatory courses related to industry standards and products (e.g., Iron Ridge, Unirac).
Continuously update design standards and templates to reflect industry best practices
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience in US Residential/Commercial Solar Design.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of NEC, AHJ and US solar permitting requirements.
- Experience with PV layouts, permit plan sets and electrical drawings.
- Understanding of modules, inverters, microinverters, optimizers and other PV equipment.
- Experience with Aurora Solar, HelioScope, OpenSolar, PVsyst or similar tools is an advantage.
Qualification
B.Tech/B.E./Diploma Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or relevant Engineering discipline.
