Job Description

PURCHASING ASSISTANT

Location: Shankar Nagar, Raipur (C.G.)

Experience: 2 to 3 years

Salary Range: 15k 25k

Employment Type: Full-Time (On-site)

Position Overview:

The Purchase Assistant is responsible for assisting in the procurement activities related to the operation and maintenance of the power plant. This includes sourcing equipment, spare parts, consumables, and services required for plant functioning, ensuring that the purchases are made in a cost-effective, timely, and compliant manner. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of power plant equipment and supply chain dynamics, along with proven experience in industrial procurement.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Procurement & Sourcing

  • Assist in end-to-end procurement process for mechanical, electrical, and civil materials related to plant operations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers for equipment, spares, consumables, and technical services.
  • Obtain competitive quotations and ensure timely placement of purchase orders and contracts.

2) Contract Management

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage supplier contracts, ensuring terms are favorable and risks are mitigated.
  • Monitor contract compliance and handle supplier performance issues.

3) Inventory Coordination

  • Collaborate with stores and maintenance departments to maintain optimal inventory levels of critical spares and materials.
  • Assist in planong and forecast of procurement need based on maintenance schedules and consumption trends.

4) Cost Control & Optimization

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements in the procurement cycle.
  • Analyze market trends and pricing to drive efficient procurement strategies.

5) Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, legal standards, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, audit trails, and vendor documentation.

6) Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Finance, and Operations teams to align purchasing with operational requirements.
  • Support emergency procurement needs during plant outages or unplanned maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Supply Chain Management (MBA or PGDMM is a plus).
  • Minimum 23 years of experience in procurement within a power plant or heavy engineering industry.
  • Moderate knowledge of power plant operations, mechanical/electrical components, and industry vendors.
  • Have experience in reading civil/structural drawings and preparing BOQs using AutoCAD or similar tools.

Key Skills:

  • Sound understanding of construction materials, civil works, and plant procurement lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and ERP systems.
  • Strong negotiation, planning, and vendor development skills.
  • Excellent communication and interdepartmental coordination abilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle large volumes of procurement data and documentation.
