Job Description

1. Procurement & Sourcing

  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers for raw materials such as steel billets, scrap, alloys, consumables, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure cost-effective procurement while maintaining required quality standards.
  • Float RFQs, analyze quotations, finalize purchase orders, and manage long-term rate contracts.

2. Vendor Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and contractors.
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations on quality, delivery timelines, and pricing.
  • Identify new vendors to improve supply chain competitiveness.

3. Inventory & Material Planning

  • Coordinate with production and stores team for material forecasting and inventory planning.
  • Maintain optimum stock levels to avoid production delays or overstock situations.
  • Monitor lead times, material consumption, and reorder levels.

4. Cost & Budget Management

  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through strategic sourcing and vendor negotiations.
  • Prepare and track procurement budgets, price trends, and cost-saving reports.
  • Ensure adherence to approved budgets and financial controls.

5. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all procured materials meet the required technical specifications and QA standards.
  • Coordinate with Quality department for raw material testing and compliance.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, audits, and statutory requirements.

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate purchase records, vendor agreements, price lists, and documentation.
  • Generate MIS reports including purchase status, material availability, supplier performance, and cost analysis.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of steel raw materials, manufacturing consumables, and procurement processes.
  • Good understanding of supply chain management, inventory control, and cost optimization.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems, and SAP (preferred).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Production / Supply Chain or equivalent.
  • MBA in Supply Chain / Operations (preferred).
  • 814 years of experience in procurement within the steel or heavy manufacturing industry.
