Job Summary
The Engineering Material Purchase Executive is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and ensuring timely availability of engineering and maintenance materials required for pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. The role involves vendor management, cost optimization, compliance with pharmaceutical industry standards, and coordination with engineering, maintenance, and stores departments.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Activities
Procure engineering, utility, maintenance, and spare parts materials as per approved purchase requisitions.
Source materials such as pumps, motors, valves, bearings, HVAC components, electrical items, instrumentation spares, piping materials, and utility equipment.
Obtain quotations from approved vendors and perform comparative analysis.
Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and service agreements.
Generate Purchase Orders (POs) and monitor order execution.
Vendor Management
Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers.
Maintain approved vendor lists in accordance with company procedures.
Monitor vendor performance related to quality, cost, and delivery.
Coordinate vendor audits and qualification activities when required.
Inventory & Cost Control
Work closely with engineering and stores teams to maintain optimum inventory levels.
Monitor consumption trends and initiate procurement for critical spares.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality and compliance.
Support annual budgeting and cost-control initiatives.
Coordination & Documentation
Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, production, QA, and finance departments.
Ensure proper documentation of procurement records and purchase transactions.
Track material deliveries and resolve supply-related issues.
Maintain procurement data in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
Compliance
Ensure procurement activities comply with company SOPs, GMP requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Maintain complete documentation for audits and inspections.
Adhere to company procurement policies and ethical sourcing practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field.
Additional qualification in Supply Chain Management or Materials Management is an advantage.
Experience
14 years of experience in engineering material procurement, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare industries.
Required Skills
Experience handling maintenance and utility spare procurement is preferred.
Knowledge of engineering materials, spare parts, and industrial equipment.
Strong vendor negotiation and supplier management skills.
Understanding of pharmaceutical industry requirements and GMP environment.
ERP knowledge (SAP, Oracle, or similar systems).
Strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
Proficiency in MS Excel and procurement reporting.
