Purchase Engineer (Generators, Gearboxes, Heat Exchangers, Sensors & Engine Components)

Job Summary

The Purchase Engineer is responsible for the sourcing, procurement, supplier development, and commercial management of bought-out components used in gas engine-based power generation systems. The role includes procurement of generators (alternators), gearboxes, heat exchangers, sensors, pumps, valves, turbochargers, control systems, electrical panels, and other critical mechanical and electrical components while ensuring quality, cost competitiveness, and on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing

• Source domestic and international suppliers for gas engine components.
• Identify technically competent suppliers capable of meeting engineering specifications.
• Develop alternate sources to reduce supply risk.
• Conduct supplier capability assessments and technical-commercial evaluations.

Procurement

• Float RFQs based on engineering specifications and Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Evaluate quotations considering technical compliance, pricing, delivery, warranty, and lifecycle costs.
• Negotiate commercial terms including:
• Pricing, Payment terms, Incoterms, Warranty, Delivery schedules, Tooling charges, After-sales support
• Issue Purchase Orders and monitor execution until delivery.

• Develop and qualify Indian and global suppliers.
• Conduct supplier audits.
• Monitor supplier performance.
• Maintain Approved Vendor List (AVL).
• Drive supplier quality improvements.
• Develop localization opportunities for imported components.

Commercial Management

• Negotiate annual rate contracts.
• Conduct annual price reviews.
• Monitor commodity price trends.
• Prepare cost analyses and total cost of ownership (TCO) evaluations.
• Identify value engineering opportunities.

Cross Functional Coordination

Coordinate with:

• Design Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Projects, Service Department, Finance, Logistics

Quality Management

• Ensure procurement complies with engineering specifications.
• Resolve supplier quality issues.
• Review inspection reports.
• Support supplier corrective actions (CAPA).
• Monitor supplier PPM and rejection trends.

Logistics & Delivery

• Expedite critical components.
• Track deliveries.
• Coordinate imports and customs clearance where applicable.
• Ensure timely material availability for production.
