Job Description

Position Summary

The Psychology Counsellor and Manager, Wellness Centre will lead the design, delivery, and administration of student and staff mental health and wellness services. The role combines direct counselling support with centre management responsibilities, including program planning, case coordination, outreach, documentation, referral management, and collaboration with academic and administrative stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential individual counselling, crisis support, and short-term therapeutic interventions for students and, where appropriate, staff.
  • Conduct psychological assessments, intake interviews, risk screening, and need-based referrals.
  • Develop and implement wellness initiatives, awareness campaigns, group sessions, and preventive mental health programs.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Wellness Centre, including scheduling, client flow, record keeping, and service coordination.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case notes, referral records, and confidential client files in line with professional and institutional protocols.
  • Work closely with faculty, residence teams, student support units, medical services, and external mental health professionals to ensure holistic care.
  • Design and monitor wellness policies, SOPs, and service delivery standards for the centre.
  • Support crisis intervention, emergency response, and follow-up care planning when needed.
  • Analyze wellness trends and prepare periodic reports on service usage, concerns, and recommendations.
  • Organize workshops, training sessions, and mental health literacy programs for the campus community.
  • Contribute to the development of a supportive, inclusive, and mentally healthy campus culture.
  • Supervise support staff, interns, or counsellors assigned to the Wellness Centre, if applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, confidentiality norms, and applicable legal and institutional requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Applied Psychology from a recognized institution.
  • Additional certification or training in counselling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, or mental health first aid preferred.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience, including counselling and wellness program administration.
  • Prior experience in a university, school, hospital, or structured wellness environment preferred.

  • Strong counselling, assessment, and case management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Organisational and administrative ability to manage a centre independently.
  • Familiarity with student mental health issues, stress management, adjustment concerns, and developmental challenges.
  • Strong coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond calmly in crisis situations.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in campus mental health, adolescent/young adult counselling, or higher education wellbeing.
  • Exposure to group facilitation, wellbeing programming, and preventive mental health frameworks.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and build wellness engagement across the university.
