Job Description

We are seeking a Protection & Control Engineer with 3 to 10 years of experience in substation design. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with a background in electrical engineering and a strong grasp of industry standards. This role requires someone who can lead the development of detailed engineering drawings, perform complex calculations, and coordinate with various teams to deliver high-quality, compliant projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Documentation: Develop detailed engineering drawings for EHV (Extra High Voltage) substations, including panel arrangements, one-line/three-line diagrams, and equipment wiring. You will also prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates.
  • Technical Analysis: Prepare calculations and reports for engineering studies, such as Voltage drop and AC/DC load studies.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate design activities with other departments and offices globally. You'll review designs and attend virtual meetings with clients to ensure project alignment and quality.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. You will also participate in quality reviews and help develop new tools and workflows to increase design efficiency.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all detailed electrical substation design packages comply with required client standards and international codes like NESC, IEEE, and IEC.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 10 years of experience in substation design. Experience with projects in the US, Canada, and the UK is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Familiarity with substation automation systems based on IEC 61850.
  • Knowledge of Relay Testing and control/protection scheme testing is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and Substation 3D Design suits is considered.
  • Personal Attributes: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to work methodically and analytically, demonstrating strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
