About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Proofreading Intern with an excellent command of English grammar and a strong passion for writing, editing, and content quality.

The ideal candidate should be capable of identifying grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and contextual errors while improving sentence structure, clarity, coherence, and readability.

You will work closely with writers, mentors, and the content team to review and refine articles, manuscripts, and other written materials. You will also help ensure content originality, factual accuracy, and consistency in writing style and formatting.

Key Responsibilities

• Proofread and copy-edit articles, manuscripts, and other written content to identify grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and language errors.
• Review sentence structure and identify awkward, unclear, repetitive, or poorly constructed sentences
• Improve clarity, coherence, readability, and overall content flow through appropriate editing and rewriting.
• Identify grammatical as well as contextual errors and ensure the content communicates the intended meaning accurately.
• Maintain consistency in tone, writing style, formatting, terminology, and editorial standards.
• Review academic and professional content while ensuring proper referencing and citation formats.
• Verify facts, dates, statistics, references, and supporting information through reliable research.
• Check content for potential plagiarism and originality concerns using appropriate plagiarism-checking tools.
• Review AI-assisted or potentially AI-generated content for accuracy, originality, relevance, and writing quality. Escalate concerns for further review rather than relying solely on AI-detection scores.
• Suggest appropriate revisions, reorganize paragraphs, and recommend improvements to enhance content quality.
• Collaborate with writers and mentors to develop content ideas and maintain high editorial standards.
• Complete assigned proofreading tasks within deadlines and provide regular progress updates to the reporting manager.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
• Excellent command of written English, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
• Strong proofreading and copy-editing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to identify grammatical mistakes, contextual errors, and inconsistencies.
• Ability to recognize awkward or unclear sentences and improve their structure.
• Familiarity with APA referencing style and other academic citation formats
• Knowledge of plagiarism-checking tools and content originality verification.
• Basic understanding of AI-assisted writing tools and AI-generated content evaluation.
• Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with academic writing, research papers, articles, reports, and professional documents.
• Experience using proofreading and editing tools.
• Understanding of editorial guidelines, content formatting, and style consistency.
• Previous experience in proofreading, editing, content writing, or related activities will be an added advantage.
