Quality Manager/Lead Solar Projects (Ground-Mounted & Rooftop). This profile is designed for a candidate with 810 years of experience who can ensure technical compliance, safety, and operational excellence.

Job Title: Quality Manager Solar Execution (Ground-Mount & Rooftop)

Role Summary

The Quality Manager will lead the Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) functions for solar power project execution. This includes overseeing both large-scale ground-mounted plants and commercial/industrial rooftop installations. The candidate is responsible for the entire lifecycle, from incoming material inspection to final commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Quality Planning: Develop and implement Project Quality Plans (PQP) and Field Quality Plans (FQP) tailored for both ground-mount and rooftop sites.
  • Site Execution Oversight: Monitor daily site activities to ensure civil, mechanical, and electrical works align with approved drawings and technical specifications.
  • Inspection & Testing:
  • Incoming: Conduct Pre-Dispatch Inspections (PDI) and verify the quality of modules, inverters, structures (MMS), and balance of system (BOS) components.
  • In-Process: Oversee soil compaction, concrete pouring, module mounting, cable laying, and earthing.
  • Final: Lead performance testing, including Performance Ratio (PR) analysis and grid synchronization checks.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Audit vendor manufacturing facilities and supervise subcontractor teams to maintain uniform quality standards.
  • Non-Conformance Management: Identify bottlenecks or defects, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), and drive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project records, MIS reports, and compliance documentation required for ISO standards and government approvals.

Expanded Technical Responsibilities

  • Civil & Structural Quality
  • Foundation & Earthworks: Oversee soil compaction, pile load testing, and concrete strength verification (slump and cube tests) for MMS (Module Mounting Structure) foundations.
  • Structural Integrity: Inspect the alignment, levelling, and tightening of structural components (rafters, purlins, tilting links) against approved drawings.
  • Rooftop Specifics: Conduct structural load-bearing assessments of roofs and verify the quality of waterproofing and penetrations to maintain building shell integrity.
  • Infrastructure: Supervise the quality of civil works for the boundary wall, control room, and inverter room foundations.
  • Mechanical Quality
  • MMS & Trackers: Lead QA/QC for MMS and tracker installation, including torque marking of fasteners and verifying galvanisation thickness to prevent corrosion.
  • Module Handling: Ensure proper First-Off article inspections and monitor for micro-cracks or hotspots using EL (Electroluminescence) testing or thermal imaging.
  • Mounting Accuracy: Audit the tilt angle, orientation, and shadow-free spacing as per the PVSyst or HelioScope design specifications
  • Electrical Quality
  • DC/AC Infrastructure: Verify cable sizing, UV protection for outdoor wiring, and proper termination in String Combiner Boxes (SCB) and Inverters.
  • System Testing: Oversee core electrical tests, including Insulation Resistance (IR), continuity, polarity, and open-circuit voltage (Voc).
  • Earthing & Lightning Protection: Ensure earth resistance is within limits and verify the continuity of the entire earthing network, including lightning arresters.
  • Commissioning: Manage Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for transformers and inverters, Manage Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for transformers and inverters, ensuring grid synchronization and performance ratio (PR) verification

Required Training & Certifications

A candidate at this seniority level should possess a combination of the following international and national credentials:

  • Quality Management Systems (QMS):
  • ISO 9001:2015: Certified Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor for Quality Management.
  • ISO 14001 & ISO 45001: Training in Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Management.
  • Technical Certifications:
  • Solar PV Project Management (NISE/MNRE): Certification from the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) or Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ).
  • Master Trainer (Suryamitra): Highly preferred for senior roles involving site team leadership.
  • Electrical Safety/Contractor License: Valid license from State Electrical Licensing Boards.
  • Specialized Technical Training:
  • IEC Standards: Deep understanding of IEC 61215 (Module Performance), IEC 61730 (Safety), and IEC 62446 (Testing & Documentation).
  • NDT Level-II: Proficiency in Non-Destructive Testing (UT, RT, MPT, PT) for structural integrity.
  • Solar Software: Training in PVSyst, HelioScope, or AutoCAD for design verification

Preferred Skills

  • Expertise in HT/LT systems, switchgear, and grid connectivity requirements.
  • Proven track record in managing MW-scale utility projects/Roof Top Projects (50+ MW preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of BIS standards (IS 14286) and MNRE/ALMM compliance

Work Experience

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering.
  • 1015 years of experience in Solar EPC / Renewable Energy projects.
  • Minimum 5+ years in a quality leadership role in rooftop solar projects.
  • Strong knowledge of rooftop solar design, installation standards, and testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with MNRE guidelines, IEC standards, and relevant safety codes.
  • Experience in multi-site project quality management.
