Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Project Optometrist role based at L V Prasad Eye Institute in Vijayawada and nearby district. The Project Optometrist will perform comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction, binocular vision assessment, topography and history taking in accordance with reserch protocols. The role involves supporting project-based clinical activities such as screening camps, outreach programs, and structured follow-up of project participants. The professional will document clinical findings accurately, maintain project-related records and reports, and coordinate with project managers, PIs, and other team members to ensure quality care and smooth project execution.
Additional responsibilities include patient counseling, health education, contributing to data collection for monitoring and evaluation, and participating in training or capacity-building activities as required by the project.
Qualifications
- Recognized Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optometry from an accredited institution, with valid registration as applicable.
- Strong clinical optometry skills, including refraction, contact lens fitting, basic low vision assessment, and anterior/posterior segment evaluation under supervision.
- Experience or interest in community and project-based eye care, including outreach screenings, school or workplace programs, and rural/underserved settings.
- Proficiency in patient counseling, clear documentation, and use of electronic or paper medical records for project data and reporting.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, manage time effectively, and adapt to fieldwork and structured project timelines.
- Basic skills in data collection, adherence to study or project protocols, and willingness to support monitoring, evaluation, and quality improvement activities.
- Good spoken and written communication skills in English; proficiency in local languages (e.g., Telugu) is highly desirable.
- High level of professional ethics, empathy, and sensitivity to the needs of diverse and underserved communities.
- Prior experience in a hospital, eye care center, or public health project is an advantage, but motivated early
