A Project Engineer for Progressing Cavity Pumps (PCP) is responsible for managing all technical aspects of projects involving the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of PCP systems, typically within the oil and gas or water/wastewater industries. The role requires a blend of mechanical/process engineering expertise and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Coordination: Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets from conception to completion. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, operations, and third-party contractors.
  • Technical Expertise & Design: Provide technical leadership and support related to PCP systems, including design, installation, and commissioning.
    • Review and interpret client needs and engineering drawings to ensure designs meet specifications and industry standards like ASME or API.
    • Perform mechanical design calculations for pump systems and associated equipment.
    • Develop or review P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and ensure proper selection and sizing of electrical and control components if required.
  • Quality Control and Compliance: Ensure all work complies with applicable safety regulations, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) policies, performance standards, and specifications. Conduct quality inspections and testing protocols (e.g., Factory Acceptance Testing - FAT).
  • Budget and Resource Management: Track project expenditures, manage resources (personnel, equipment, materials), and coordinate procurement activities to stay within budget.
  • Troubleshooting and Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and technical issues, develop backup plans, and implement corrective actions swiftly to prevent delays or failures. Provide day-to-day technical support to sales, field operations and maintenance teams.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including reports, specifications, and manuals. Prepare regular progress reports for project managers, clients, and stakeholders.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or a related Engineering field is typically required.
  • Experience: 8+ years of proven working experience as a Project Engineer, with specific experience related to pumps, rotating equipment, or the oil and gas/water industry being highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, fluid dynamics, and pump systems. Proficiency with design software (e.g., Creo, AutoCAD or SolidWorks), Windchill or Teamcenter and project management tools (e.g., MS Project).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills. The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate effectively with diverse teams is essential.

Preferred Skills

  • Certifications: A valid Engineering License or professional certification like PMP (Project Management Professional) is often preferred.
