Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Design and Planning:

  • Lead the electrical design aspects of projects, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, cabling, and control systems.
  • Ensure designs meet project specifications, including electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Conduct electrical load calculations, power studies, and select appropriate equipment and materials for project needs.
  • Develop and review design documents, including drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate electrical design with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, civil, structural) to ensure project integration.

Project Management and Execution:

  • Manage the electrical engineering portion of projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Work closely with project managers to define the scope, schedule, and resource allocation for electrical components of the project.
  • Monitor and track project progress, addressing any design or execution issues that arise during implementation.
  • Review vendor proposals, conduct technical evaluations, and oversee procurement of electrical equipment and materials.
  • Support the procurement and construction teams to ensure that electrical systems are installed according to design specifications.

Coordination and Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
  • Attend and actively participate in project meetings, providing updates on electrical design status and addressing any technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve design and construction issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Provide technical support and advice to the construction team during the implementation phase of the project.

Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Ensure all electrical designs comply with local, national, and international electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Conduct design reviews and audits to ensure that designs meet client expectations, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Implement and manage quality control processes for electrical design, ensuring that all work is reviewed and validated before submission.
  • Perform site inspections and provide support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases to ensure electrical systems are built as designed.

Risk Management and Problem Solving:

  • Identify potential risks in the electrical design process and proactively address them to avoid delays or cost overruns.
  • Provide solutions to technical problems that arise during the design or implementation phases.
  • Assess and mitigate electrical system risks, including electrical safety, power reliability, and operational efficiency.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of electrical design documents, calculations, and approval processes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare regular progress reports for senior management and clients, highlighting key milestones, issues, and resolutions.
  • Ensure proper documentation of change orders, design modifications, and other project documentation as required.

Sustainability and Innovation:

  • Integrate energy-efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly design solutions where possible, following best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and trends in electrical design to propose innovative solutions that improve system performance or reduce costs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in electrical engineering design, with a focus on large-scale industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, including power distribution, circuit design, lighting systems, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC, local electrical standards).
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct load calculations, power analysis, and fault analysis.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, team members, and contractors.
