Job Title: Program Coordinator, Biodiversity Conservation

Location: Bhuj, Gujarat

Reporting to: Executive Director, Sahjeevan

Start Date: As soon as possible

Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; in line with industry standards

Travel Requirement: Extensive travel across Gujarat.

Based in Kachchh, the organization has influenced local governance institutions, communities, and the region to conserve biodiversity, regenerate traditional water systems based on local geo-hydrological solutions, revitalize pastoralism, promote indigenous livestock breeding practices, and strengthen resilience through rain-fed agriculture.

Position: Programme Coordinator - Biodiversity Conservation

Sahjeevan is seeking to have a passionate professional who believes in communities wisdom for conservation and management of their ecologies. The position involves developing programme strategies, coordinating with conservation teams to plan and monitor projects, and promoting research and policy initiatives that advance Sahjeevan's conservation work in varied landscapes specifically in Grasslands and Savannas Ecosystem.

The Programme Coordinator will work closely with diverse stakeholders, including communities, researchers, and government agencies, funding agencies to enhance conservation outcomes across Sahjeevan's working landscapes. The role also includes engaging in policy dialogues and fostering collaborations at local, national, and international levels to advocate for biodiversity conservation in arid and semi-arid regions.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to innovative, community-led conservation models and to learn from diverse ecosystems and traditional knowledge systems.

Primary Responsibility:

To develop program strategies for Sahjeevan's conservation-based programmes; help conservation team to develop and monitor their plans and proposals including budgets to ensure efficient project management; coordinate and collaborate with different stakeholders to promote conservation research; initiate policy dialogues to advance sahjeevan's conservation work at national and international level.

Scope of Work:

1.Planning and Project Management

1.1.Formulate strategies for Sahjeevan's conservation-based programs to strengthen community led conservation actions in each working landscape

1.2.Help conservation team to develop their annual, quarterly and monthly work plansincluding Budgets

1.3.Help conservation team to monitor and track their progress versus plans and budget on regular interval

1.4.Help team to write progress reports; annual reports and donor reports for their programs on timely basis

1.5.Facilitate team to identify their capacity building needs and closely work with the Director to execute the capacity building plan.

2.Fund raising and Donor Management

2.1.Assist Director and program teams to assess funding requirement for the conservation-based programs; identify and scout for potential donors; initiate dialogue with them to understand the alignment of our visions and their objectives.

2.2.Assist Director and Program team to write project proposals; concept notes to fulfil the requirements of donor to get the funding support.

2.3.Ensure due diligence and timely compliance including financial and programmatic reports as per the donor's requirement.

2.4.Develop and maintain relationship with the donors to build trust and faith in our program and organization.

2.5.Facilitate donor's field visit to our working landscape so as to ensure smooth interaction with communities on ground.

3.Research and Monitoring

3.1.Help facilitate program team to identify conservation research agenda and to develop research proposals for each of our working landscape.

3.2.Develop a research strategy that will support environmental conservation, sustainable development, emerging issues, and education

3.3.Identify research and academia partners or individual consultants to collaborate with and develop terms of references, agreements, MoUs for their engagement.

3.4.Coordinate with research partners / consultants to ensure delivery of timely and quality research findings. and related publications (academic/non-academic).

3.5.Develop repository / MIS system to establish, maintain and update research database for easy access.

3.6.Facilitate program team and research partners to publish research publication in scientific journals / medias and national - international forums.

3.7.Design, collaborate and coordinate with research academic institutions to host workshops, seminars and academic conferences to publish scientific research.

4.Collaboration and Networking

4.1.Identify policy gaps in conservation actions and formulate organizational strategies for the policy interventions.

4.2.Identifying local, regional, national or internation partners/agencies for collaborations and bring them on board to advance conservation agenda for arid and semi-arid region.

4.3.Design and Conduct events, consultations, workshops, seminars, convenings to discuss and develop road map to work on enabling legal and policy framework for the conservation aspects in India.

4.4.Closely working with communication team to design outreach strategies for the conservation actions and ensure smooth execution of the communication plan.

4.5.To produce communication products in close coordination with program and communication team to highlights success stories; learnings and indigenous knowledge and sustainable community practices from the ground.

Eligibility Criteria and Qualifications:

Education: Master's or PhD in Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or Environmental Science.

Experience: 5 to 7 years in conservation, with significant experience in arid/semi- arid landscapes and working directly with pastoral or indigenous communities.

Skills: Proficiency in GIS, Ecological data analysis, and participatory rural appraisal(PRA) tools.

Language: Fluency in Gujarati amd/or Kutchi is desirable.
