Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategic Academic Leadership
  • Departmental Oversight: Manage the daily operations of the Forensic Medicine department, including budget, personnel, and infrastructure.
  • Curriculum Design: Lead the development and modernization of the undergraduate and postgraduate medical curriculum to include recent legal amendments and forensic technologies.
  • Faculty Mentorship: Supervise and mentor Assistant and Associate Professors, guiding their teaching methods and research initiatives.
  • Expert Medico-Legal Consultancy
  • Advanced Autopsy: Provide expert opinions on complex or high-profile medico-legal cases, including custodial deaths or exhumations.
  • Expert Testimony: Represent the institution in High Courts or the Supreme Court as a senior expert witness.
  • Policy Advice: Consult with law enforcement and government bodies on the development of forensic protocols and death investigation systems.
  • Research & Innovation
  • Research Supervision: Serve as a Principal Investigator for major institutional research projects.
  • PhD/PG Guide: Act as a primary thesis advisor for MD and PhD candidates, ensuring high scholarly standards.
  • Editorial Contribution: Often serve on the editorial boards of forensic journals or as a peer reviewer for international publications.

Required Qualifications & Experience

CriteriaSpecificationEducationMD in Forensic Medicine or DNB from an NMC-recognized institution. Experience Typically requires a minimum of 8-10 years of teaching experience, including at least 3 years as an Associate Professor. Publication Record A robust portfolio of original research (usually 10+ publications) in high-impact, indexed journals. Recognition Often required to be an NMC-approved Inspector for assessing other medical colleges.
