Job Summary
TheProduction Planning & Control Engineeris responsible for ensuring product quality and process compliance while also planning and coordinating daily production activities. The role includes inspection, quality planning (Control Plan, PFMEA, SPC, MSA), engineering drawing interpretation (GD&T), documentation control, and production scheduling to ensure on-time delivery with minimal defects and optimal resource utilization.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Control & Inspection
- Perform Incoming, In-Process, and Final Assembly Inspection.
- Conduct First Article Inspection (FAI).
- Ensure parts meet drawing and tolerance requirements.
- Raise NCR for non-conforming materials.
- Monitor rejection trends and implement corrective actions.
2. Engineering Drawing & GD&T
- Interpret 2D engineering drawings.
- Understand fits, limits, and tolerances.
- Interpret GD&T symbols (Flatness, Position, Runout, Concentricity, etc.).
- Verify geometric and dimensional compliance.
3.Measuring Instruments & Calibration
- Handle instruments such as:
- Vernier Caliper
- Micrometers
- Height Gauge
- Bore Gauge
- Dial Indicator
- Slip Gauge
- Thread Gauges
- Durometer (if foam/plastic involved)
- Maintain calibration records.
- Conduct MSA (Gauge R&R, Bias, Linearity).
4. Quality Planning & Risk Management
Process Flow Chart
- Prepare and update process flow diagrams.
Control Plan
- Develop and maintain control plans.
- Define critical characteristics and inspection frequency.
- Establish reaction plans.
PFMEA
- Conduct PFMEA for new and existing processes.
- Identify high-risk failure modes.
- Reduce RPN through corrective actions.
5. Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Implement control charts for critical dimensions.
- Monitor Cp, Cpk.
- Identify special cause variations.
- Reduce process variability.
6. Production Planning & Control (PPC)
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans.
- Align production schedules with sales orders and dispatch targets.
- Monitor production output vs plan.
- Coordinate with:
- Stores (material availability)
- Purchase (raw material planning)
- Dispatch team
- Track WIP (Work In Progress).
- Optimize machine and manpower utilization.
- Ensure production targets are achieved without compromising quality.
- Identify bottlenecks and suggest corrective measures.
7. Production Quality Management
- Monitor shop-floor process compliance.
- Ensure operators follow SOPs and work instructions.
- Support resolution of production-related quality issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis using:
- 5 Why
- Fishbone Diagram
- Pareto Analysis
- Implement CAPA.
8. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain and control:
- Inspection Reports
- Control Plans
- PFMEA
- Process Flow Charts
- MSA Reports
- SPC Records
- Production Plan & Tracking Sheets
- Calibration Records
- NCR & CAPA Reports
- Traceability Records
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 or company QMS requirements.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Good understanding of production planning principles.
- Strong GD&T knowledge.
- Proficiency in Excel for planning & data analysis.
- Basic ERP knowledge (preferred).
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance quality and production targets.
- Strong coordination and communication skills.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing Engineering
