Job Description

Position: Production Manager – Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS)

Location: Hyderabad

Experience: 20+ Years in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS), with significant Aerospace & Defense manufacturing experience

Job Summary:

The Production Manager will be responsible for leading end-to-end manufacturing operations for Aerospace & Defense electronics programs, ensuring on-time delivery, superior product quality, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The role requires extensive expertise in high-reliability electronics manufacturing processes including SMT, PCB Assembly, Box Build, Testing, System Integration, and Production Engineering.

The incumbent will drive manufacturing excellence through Lean principles, continuous improvement initiatives, and strong cross-functional leadership while ensuring compliance with Aerospace & Defense quality and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manufacturing Operations Leadership

  • Lead and manage complete production operations including SMT, PCB Assembly, Box Build, Testing, Environmental Screening, and System Integration.
  • Ensure achievement of production targets, on-time delivery (OTD), throughput, and productivity objectives.
  • Drive a First-Time-Right (FTR) manufacturing culture with a focus on zero defects and minimal rework.
  • Manage high-mix, low-volume, and complex manufacturing programs typical of Aerospace & Defense environments.
  • Optimize production planning, resource utilization, capacity management, and workflow efficiency.
  • Monitor manufacturing KPIs and implement corrective actions to achieve operational excellence.
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules while maintaining quality and cost targets.

2. Quality, Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Ensure compliance with Aerospace & Defense quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Maintain adherence to:
  • AS9100 Quality Management Systems
  • NADCAP requirements (where applicable)
  • IPC-A-610
  • J-STD-001
  • ESD, FOD, and workmanship standards
  • Customer-specific quality and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure complete product traceability, process control, documentation, and configuration management.
  • Lead internal, customer, certification, and regulatory audits.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to ensure zero major audit findings.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality teams to improve process capability and product reliability.

3. Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, and Operational Excellence initiatives.
  • Improve productivity, reduce cycle times, minimize waste, and optimize manufacturing costs.
  • Implement line balancing, capacity enhancement, and workflow optimization initiatives.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and problem-solving activities.
  • Support implementation of Digital Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives including MES, real-time production monitoring, and data analytics.
  • Drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement programs.

4. Team Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop large cross-functional manufacturing teams including Production Engineers, Supervisors, Technicians, and Operators.
  • Foster a high-performance, quality-focused, accountable, and safety-driven culture.
  • Develop succession planning and leadership pipelines within manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure effective manpower planning, competency development, and training programs.
  • Promote employee engagement, teamwork, and continuous learning initiatives.
  • Drive compliance with workplace safety, EHS, and organizational policies.

5. Program & Customer Management

  • Collaborate with Engineering, NPI, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management teams to ensure seamless execution of customer programs.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and successful transition into volume production.
  • Participate in production readiness reviews and manufacturing feasibility assessments.
  • Interface with customers regarding production status, delivery commitments, escalation management, and operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, SLAs, and contractual obligations.
  • Support customer audits, factory acceptance tests, and product qualification activities.

6. Cost Management & Business Performance

  • Drive manufacturing cost optimization while maintaining quality and delivery commitments.
  • Monitor and manage labor productivity, material utilization, inventory control, and operational expenses.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and capacity planning processes.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of manufacturing assets and resources.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or Business Administration preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS).
  • Significant experience in Aerospace & Defense electronics manufacturing.
  • Proven leadership experience managing SMT, Assembly, Test, and Integration operations.
  • Strong exposure to high-reliability, regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience leading large manufacturing teams and complex customer programs.
