The Production Manager is responsible for leading and managing end-to-end production operations in a container glass manufacturing facility producing glass bottles for the alcoholic beverages and food segments. The role ensures achievement of production targets with optimum quality, cost efficiency, safety, and equipment reliability by effectively leading Production Forming, IS Machine Maintenance, and the Mould Workshop.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Operations Management
Plan, organize, and control glass bottle production to meet volume, quality, delivery, and cost targets. Ensure consistent compliance with customer specifications for alcohol and food-grade containers. Drive high OEE, yield improvement, and reduction of process defects . Monitor and optimize furnace pull, forming efficiency, and downstream productivity. Forming Operations (IS Machines)
Lead all forming operations across IS machines, Ensure optimal machine setup, job changeovers, and process parameter control. Implement best practices in forming to improve bottle quality, cycle times, and machine utilization. IS Machine Maintenance
Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of IS machines and associated forming equipment. Ensure high equipment availability and reliability through structured maintenance systems. Coordinate with maintenance teams for timely repairs, spares planning, and technical upgrades. Be well conversant with the IS Machines replacement, section box exchange etc.. Mould Workshop Management
Lead mould design, maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management. Ensure availability of high-quality moulds, blanks, plungers, neck rings and other accessories to support production plans. Drive improvements in mould life, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy. Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to food safety and regulatory standards relevant to glass packaging for food and alcoholic beverages. Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with statutory, environmental, and safety norms. Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality complaints and internal rejections. Continuous Improvement & Cost Control
Drive Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement initiatives. Control manufacturing costs through energy optimization, reduced scrap, and efficient manpower utilization. Benchmark processes and implement best-in-class container glass manufacturing practices. People Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop engineers, supervisors, and shop-floor teams across all sub-functions. Build a high-performance culture with clear KPIs, accountability, and skill development. Manage manpower planning, training, and succession for critical roles. Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong expertise incontainer glass forming operations and IS machines In-depth knowledge of mould workshop operations and a working knowledge on the mould designs. Proven leadership in managing large shop-floor teams Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills Exposure to Lean Manufacturing / TPM / Continuous Improvement tools Good understanding of food-grade and alcohol packaging quality requirements Ability to drive safety, quality, and productivity simultaneously Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
