Job Summary
Responsible for supervising and managing day-to-day production activities involving MIG/TIG welding, riveting, gluing, and torque tightening processes. Ensure production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, and delivery schedules are achieved through effective manpower management, process monitoring, and coordination with Quality, PPC, Maintenance, and other departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily production activities related to MIG & TIG welding, riveting, gluing and torque tightening processes.
- Plan manpower and allocate operators/workers according to production requirements.
- Ensure production targets are achieved as per daily/monthly production plans.
- Monitor welding parameters such as current, voltage, wire feed speed, gas flow and welding sequence.
- Ensure proper execution of MIG/TIG welding, including weld quality, appearance and dimensional requirements.
- Supervise riveting operations and ensure correct rivet type, size, positioning and fastening quality.
- Monitor gluing/adhesive application, including surface preparation, adhesive quantity, curing time and bonding quality.
- Ensure torque tightening is carried out according to specified torque values using calibrated torque tools.
- Verify first-piece and in-process quality and coordinate with the Quality Department for inspection and corrective actions.
- Identify welding defects such as porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, cracks, spatter and improper weld profile and take corrective action.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of jigs, fixtures, welding machines, riveting tools, adhesive equipment and torque tools.
- Monitor machine/tool breakdowns and coordinate with Maintenance for quick resolution.
- Ensure operators follow SOP, Work Instructions, Control Plans and process parameters.
- Maintain production records, rejection/rework records, downtime reports and shift production reports.
- Control material wastage and improve productivity through 5S, Kaizen and continuous improvement activities.
- Train and evaluate operators on welding, riveting, gluing and torque-tightening processes.
- Ensure proper PPE and safety practices are followed in the production area.
- Coordinate with PPC, Quality, Maintenance, Stores and Engineering departments for smooth production flow.
- Investigate production and quality issues and implement root-cause and corrective actions.
- Ensure proper shift handover and communicate pending issues to the next shift.
- Maintain discipline, attendance and work allocation within the production team.
Required Skills & Experience
- Diploma / ITI / BE in Mechanical, Production or related field.
- 3–7 years of experience in sheet-metal fabrication/manufacturing production
- Strong practical knowledge of MIG & TIG welding
- Experience in riveting, adhesive/gluing and torque tightening processes.
- Knowledge of welding defects and basic welding quality requirements.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, weld symbols and work instructions.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments and basic inspection methods.
- Experience in manpower handling and achieving production targets.
- Knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing and safety practices.
- Good communication, problem-solving and team-management skills.
