About the Role:
Responsibilities:
- Own Story-Level Requirements and Sprint Readiness
- Write, refine, and maintain high-quality user stories with clear acceptance criteria
- Ensure backlog items are well-formed, testable, and unambiguous for Engineering and QA
- Lead backlog refinement to ensure stories are:
- o correctly scoped
- o dependency-aware
- o sized appropriately
- o aligned to sprint objectives
- Ensure sprint planning is efficient by bringing a ready backlog with clear tradeoffs and sequencing options
- Drive Execution Clarity During Product Delivery
- Act as the day-to-day decision partner for Engineering during sprint execution
- Resolve requirement questions quickly and prevent delivery stalls
- Make sprint-level scope tradeoffs (within agreed goals) to maintain flow and delivery momentum
- Collaborate with QA to ensure expected behavior is verifiable and aligned to regulated quality expectations
- Partner with Platform TPM + Domain PMs (CMC/CPV)
- Work closely with Platform/Technical Product Management to understand platform intent, constraints, and NFRs
- Partner with Domain Director and Domain PM(s) for CMC and CPV to ensure stories reflect real workflow needs and outcomes
- Ensure platform delivery enables domain adoption without introducing inconsistent patterns across suites
- Ensure GxP-Grade Product Quality and Readiness
- Ensure stories reflect the realities of regulated customers, including:
- o auditability and traceability
- o e-signature expectations (where applicable)
- o data integrity and compliance alignment
- o secure, permissioned behavior and controlled workflows
- Define acceptance criteria that supports inspection-ready behaviors and reduces downstream validation risk
- Backlog Health, Hygiene, and Operational Visibility
- Maintain backlog health: clear priorities, organized structure, reduced noise, and current status
- Track readiness metrics (example: % of backlog in Ready state, carryover rate, churn rate)
- Surface risks early (dependency gaps, unclear requirements, scope creep, conflicting stakeholder input)
- Communicate status, risks, and decision points clearly to Product and Engineering stakeholders
- Support Continuous Improvement of Delivery Practices
- Identify recurring execution issues (ambiguity patterns, refinement gaps, testability issues) and propose improvements
- Strengthen team habits around:
- o Definition of Ready
- o Definition of Done alignment
- o consistent story structure and quality
- Contribute to better system-level outcomes: improved predictability, reduced rework, and faster cycle time
Requirements:
- Product Ownership Excellence
- Strong command of Agile delivery mechanics (Scrum/Kanban)
- Deep capability in writing:
- o crisp user stories
- o clear acceptance criteria
- o testable requirements
- o edge cases and negative paths
- Ability to drive alignment fast without over-processing decisions
- Strong judgment on scope boundaries and sequencing
- Platform + Technical Fluency
- Comfortable working with Engineering on:
- o APIs, integrations, and shared services
- o cross-team dependencies
- o non-functional requirements (performance, reliability, security)
- o system behavior clarity across suites
- Can translate technical constraints into understandable tradeoffs and requirements
- GxP / Life Sciences Mindset
- Understands why regulated customers require:
- o traceability
- o controlled workflows
- o auditability
- o inspection readiness
- o consistent behavior across releases
- Familiarity with workflows and concepts such as:
- o CMC
- o CPV
- o QbD
- o Tech Transfer
- o process validation and lifecycle thinking
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years experience as a Product Owner (not currently in a BA role) delivering software in an Agile environment
- Demonstrated experience owning:
- o story quality
- o backlog readiness
- o sprint execution support
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to prioritize, manage ambiguity, and deliver in fast-moving environments
- Experience using Agile tooling such as:
- o Jira and Confluence
- o Microsoft 365 (Teams, Excel, PowerPoint)
- o Miro (or similar)
- Preferred Qualifications (any of the following)
- Experience supporting Continued Process Verification (CPV) workflows (monitoring, trending, signals/alerts, investigation context)
- Working knowledge of Quality by Design (QbD) concepts (CQAs/CPPs, control strategy thinking, linking process intent to execution evidence)
- Familiarity with Risk Management practices in regulated environments (risk assessment, scoring, mitigation, effectiveness checks)
- Understanding of CMC lifecycle processes (process development/scale-up, tech transfer, change impact assessment)
