Job Description: Workday Product Manager
Role Overview
We are looking for a
Workday Product Manager with minimum 3 years of product/ project management experience who can own, shape, and deliver high-impact Workday product capabilities across multiple Workday modules. This role requires someone who combines strong product management discipline with deep hands-on Workday knowledge and a willingness to work closely with developers, testers, business stakeholders, and implementation teams.
The ideal candidate is not just a surface-level coordinator. We need someone who can understand business needs, translate them into clear product requirements, prioritize effectively, validate solutions hands-on, and ensure high-quality delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Ownership and Strategy
- Own the product roadmap for Workday-related capabilities across relevant modules.
- Understand business requirements and convert them into clear product features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans.
- Prioritize requirements based on business value, user impact, dependencies, risks, and delivery feasibility.
- Manage the product backlog and ensure it is well-groomed, structured, and actionable for engineering and QA teams.
Workday Functional Expertise
- Bring hands-on knowledge of multiple Workday modules such as HCM, Payroll, Benefits, Compensation, Absence, Time Tracking, Recruiting, Talent, Learning, Financials, or Integrations.
- Understand Workday business processes, security, reporting, configuration, integrations, and downstream system impacts.
- Partner with business users to identify gaps, pain points, and improvement opportunities within Workday.
Delivery and Execution
- Work closely with developers, testers, architects, and implementation teams to deliver product enhancements and fixes.
- Actively participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, testing cycles, defect triage, and release readiness.
- Ensure requirements are clearly understood and delivered as expected.
- Track progress, manage risks, resolve blockers, and communicate delivery status effectively.
Hands-On Validation and Testing
- Be willing to get into the details with developers and QA teams.
- Review configurations, test scenarios, and expected outcomes.
- Perform hands-on functional testing where needed to validate product behavior.
- Support UAT planning, defect analysis, retesting, and production readiness.
- Ensure delivered solutions meet business needs, not just technical specifications.
Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate clearly with business stakeholders, engineering teams, QA, leadership, and implementation partners.
- Explain complex Workday concepts in simple, practical terms.
- Facilitate workshops, requirement discussions, demos, and decision-making sessions.
- Provide transparent updates on priorities, trade-offs, delivery timelines, risks, and dependencies.
Required Skills And Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Workday across multiple modules.
- Prior experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner, Business Analyst, or Functional Lead for Workday-related products or implementations.
- Proven ability to manage product backlogs, prioritize competing requirements, and drive delivery.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery practices, sprint ceremonies, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release management.
- Ability to work closely with developers and testers at a detailed level.
- Comfortable performing hands-on testing and validating Workday functionality.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with detailed execution.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ownership mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Workday implementations, enhancements, integrations, or post-production support.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including HR, Finance, IT, QA, Engineering, and external vendors.
- Familiarity with Workday reports, business process configuration, calculated fields, security roles, and integration concepts.
- Workday certification in one or more modules is a plus.
- Experience working in SaaS product environments or enterprise transformation programs.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a
hands-on Workday product leader who can operate at both strategic and execution levels. They should be comfortable talking to senior stakeholders about priorities and roadmap, while also sitting with developers and testers to clarify requirements, review defects, validate functionality, and ensure the product works as intended.
